I never knew of the icy wastes
\nOr those amazing skies
\nI was born in Edinburgh Zoo
\nIn a cage to my surprise
\nZoo\u2019s are really prison camps
\nOur wildness they destroy
\nOn concrete floors in cages
\nHour after hour no joy
\nExistence its unnatural life
\nHumans everywhere
\nThey decide when we should eat
\nAnd being a Polar Bear
\nOur instinctive memory
\nAnd our mothers love and care
\nCaptivity is ignorance
\nbeing locked down
\nIn despair<\/p>\n
Which Rapidly takes over
\nThe arrogance, that too
\nHumanity controls us
\nEverything we do
\nDead flesh stinking water
\nThe seasons far away
\nFrom being in the polar regions
\nFor which of course we pay
\nThe source of light is hampered
\nInside a building, we
\nNeed the cold the intensity
\nOf swimming in the sea
\nIn stead a concrete floor
\nThat hurts our pads
\nSo senselessly
\nAnd, no life around
\nAnd no sounds around
\nAnd wanting to be free<\/p>\n
The blue and white of Nature
\nThe mentality of power
\nThe exercise of awareness
\nThe sixth sense where we vow
\nTo live our lives in harmony
\nOur ruminative desires
\nOur willingness to wander
\nReceptive to the land
\nAble to cooperate
\nAnd to understand
\nThe disinclination
\nOf a sterile cage
\nIndisposed to being
\nAnpuppet on their stage
\nGawped at by the humans
\nWe unconsenting souls
\nGrudging and unspontaneous
\nRegretful of our roles<\/p>\n
Zoo\u2019s are evil places
\nOur wildness they destroy
\nThey pay us a disservice
\nAnd eliminate all joy
\nWe are the stock items
\nAnd profit is the need
\nThey inflist us with their misery
\nSo that they succeed
\nIts an enterprise
\nA business
\nA world of commerce where
\nThey have to make their budgets
\nAnd of course be aware
\nIn sickness and in heath
\nThat we
\nHave to attract those who
\nPay the ticket price and come
\nThat is what a zoo<\/p>\n
Is about
\nWe are the innocent
\nTo lock us up is wrong
\nTo abandon all our godly gifts
\nHere we do not belong
\nSoaked up in their arrogance
\nDeserted so to say
\nWithdrawn from the Polar sphere
\nAnd sadly made to stay
\nAnd then for me deciding
\nTo ship me far away
\nTo Japan another enclosure
\nIndoors
\nYes everyday
\nThe Japanese are masterful
\nThe climate there is wrong
\nThey really were incompetent
\nAnd I was far from strong<\/p>\n
Again the food was lousy
\nIcy fish and meat
\nAnd visitors throw stuff at us
\nThe badness is complete
\nThe air is really awful
\nOur coat is far too thick
\nTheir inadequacy was rampant
\nAnd I was always sick<\/p>\n
Nobody to love me
\nImpoverished each day
\nNobody to talk to
\nDeprived there was no way
\nInoperative and idle
\nBenumbed most of the time
\nAnd just so artificial
\nNo where at all to climb
\nNightmares i had plenty
\nThe food was rotten and
\nEveryday was a challenge
\nWith nothing really planned
\nThe arena just so awful
\nSinister and bleak
\nMiserable and unhappy
\nEvery single week<\/p>\n
I passed into the spirit world
\nJust the other day
\nI couldn\u2019t stand it anymore
\nI just wanted to say
\nThese prison camps are terrible
\nThe guards are so unfair
\nWhoever designs our captive life
\nAre never made aware
\nEvery night I closed my eyes
\nAnd wished that I would be
\nSent back to the POLAR lands
\nThe ice and snow and sea
\nPlaces my mother spoke of
\nIf only I could be
\nIn the wilds far from a zoo
\nFor my next eternity.<\/p>\n
