The children of Mali
\nAre struggling to be
\nPart of gods country
\nOf humanity
\nFear and trepidation
\nThey hold in their heart
\nFor traffickings rife
\nCart after cart<\/p>\n
And sent over the border
\nWhere the chocolate is grown
\nFor the giants the heartless
\nWhere nightmares full blown
\nAre very apparent
\nSpasm and shock
\nRepression and coarseness
\nAnd callousness knock<\/p>\n
Where insensitive corporates
\nPeddle their wares
\nMali\u2019s dear children
\nOf course say their prayers
\nBut god is not hearing
\nNor feeling their pain
\nAnd Far too much suffering
\nAgain and again<\/p>\n
For some 30 dollars
\nA child is sold
\nInto heartache and anguish
\nInto wretchedness rolled
\nAlone in the world
\nMade to work as a slave
\nBeaten and whipped
\nAnd put into a grave<\/p>\n
So much despondency
\nFretting and strain
\nJust little children
\nFor them life in vain
\nStruggling manfully
\nUnder the sun
\nIn dangerous conditions
\nDevoid of all fun<\/p>\n
Its gruelling its grindingly hot
\nAnd its wrong
\nDepressing and dismal
\nIt is all along
\nsome 15,000 young children
\nNow be
\nIn the midst of the violence
\nThe Cacao Industry<\/p>\n
Blubbering whimpering
\nVery moist eyes
\nAway from their parents
\nUnder the skies
\nFacing the wrath of
\nThe corporate whip
\nForbidding and frightful
\nUnder the grip<\/p>\n
Of the great chocolate families
\nWhose artlessness stinks
\nThey tell many lies
\nNobody thinks
\nBrand names could do this
\nSuch vulgarity
\nAnd intimidation
\nAnd awe seemingly<\/p>\n
Despite all their promises
\nAnd all their lies
\nThe children are having to work
\nTo be wise
\nThey are treated slavishly
\nThe hostility
\nSo much ill feeling
\nIts no place to be
\nBut they have to be there
\nForced every day
\nWith a grip of iron
\nAnd of course without pay<\/p>\n
Unloved and unwelcome
\nNobody cares
\nJust evil intention
\nNobody dares
\nTo speak out of place
\nFor the whip tears the skin
\nAnd an ugly face
\nAnd a stint in the bin<\/p>\n
They never show mercy
\nAs ruthless as hell
\nThey make loads of money
\nThe chocolate they sell
\nAt fancy prices across the sea
\nAnd we must be thankful
\nReally to be
\nAlive with a job
\nNo matter how hard
\nHow our body\u2019s acHe
\nAnd the whip has scarred<\/p>\n
so much immorality
\nAnd wickedness here
\nStolen and trafficked
\nOh! its very clear
\nThey have the upper hand
\nWe are the ones
\nNobody loves us
\nSomeone else\u2019s sons<\/p>\n
Such degradation
\nSuch flagrancy
\nTheir wicked ways
\nThe West fails to see
\nRewarded for treachery
\nAnd for this crime
\nUs children are suffering
\nAll of the time<\/p>\n
We are abandoned
\nLost to the world
\nThe Wests incompetence
\nHere we are hurled
\nUnlawful places
\nWithout a name
\nOn the wrong side of the law
\nAnd always to blame<\/p>\n
The chocolate children
\nCondemned evermore
\nLost in the jungle
\nWhatever for
\nBeing thrashed being kicked
\nBeing beaten and caned
\nAnd left in shackles
\nAnd even chained<\/p>\n
Many have died
\nMany fall sick
\nSo many bruises
\nHit with a stick
\nNo parents to cry to
\nNo one at all
