The Anderson shelter
\nIt was very dark
\nI remember
\nAt the bottom of the garden
\nA mark
\nand an arrow
\nShe puffed
\nShe was puffing
\nWhen she
\nopened the gate
\nWhere It dragged horribly<\/p>\n
Thats when she stepped slowly
\nDown the steps into
\ndarkness
\nAnd dampness,
\nAnd out of the blue
\nWhere
\nWould we be
\nIn the dark with no one to help us
\nAll i could think of
\nWas my dear mummy
\nWe sat there together
\nIt was warm
\nAnd then cold
\nShe seemed restless
\nAn alien world
\nTo behold
\nThats what I remember
\nA cold draughty place
\nI was rolled in the cold
\nI felt wrapped up, my face
\nI remember the shelter
\nRight to this day
\nThat big pile of bricks
\nVery much in our way.<\/p>\n
A big tin of oster milk
\nSat on the table
\nThe year 44
\nAnd I was just able
\nTo see out the window
\nAnd what i saw
\nWas my mothers reflection
\nNo part of this war<\/p>\n
101 the number on the door
\nThe biggest of crashes
\nI guessed we are at war
\nBombs dropping down out of the sky
\nIt was hard to breathe
\nBut i wasnt sure why<\/p>\n
Born i was born in April and I
\nWas looking straight up
\nInto the sky to number 99
\nWhen an plane whizzed between
\nI was there on the table
\nMy eyes met with his
\nI saw the swastika
\nI heard the fizz
\nOf propellors a\u2019turning
\nHe looked straight at me
\nAnd was gone in a flash
