First People

They were first people, and still are in my bookTheir spirit was evident, as was their power

They lived close to Nature, farming sustainably

Sensitive people, hour upon hour

Their spirituality, its was spectacular

Worship was evident, as was their soul

Warriors, men with an awesome composure

They could exact the shrewdest control.

They took their fight, to the men with the rifles

With their bows and their arrows they took on the horse

Some rode like crazy without any saddle

Each nuance was learned, and practiced of course

The women were marvellous, their strength was important

Flexible,practical,sensitive too, a tremendous resilience

Diverse and creative, there was not much the women couldn’t do

I’m enthralled by the prowess, what women could undertake

Intelligent, thoughtfull progressive all through

what was attempted was always done well

They made use of leather, ceramics and shell

Of bone, Horticulture and wild plants for sure

Herbology, wigwam construction and more

They looked after the children and grew all the food

Corn, Pumpkins, Peppers then roasted and stewed

Clearing the forests a back breaking job

Felling some trees the old men would sob

At the pain in their backs, and the soreness they found

But these women were tough when preparing the ground

Hoeing and girdling, made the hands sore

But success was their vision pain they’d ignore

Hollywood processed us the Children in England

Propaganda was rolled out, and hungry were we

We gobbled it down How the wild west was won

How the savage was beaten so successfully

The Baddies were run off their land and were slaughtered

The white man his soldiers all dressed up in blue

Rifles and Horses were terrible forces

But The indigenous people were strategists too

The lie of the land it was inside their being

Waste never stood in the way of desire

They understood so much of life in the open

Chopping and carrying kindling, for fire

They could skin, they could weave,

making clothes for the children

Medicines, utensils, they made them all

And they had children with no one to call

Working right up to a few days before

Harvesting life from seeds they did store

Community based and a culture of sharing

Built up over centuries, ritual and dance

Thanksgiving Rainmaking, Weather Lore people

Protection and storage were not left to chance

Methods of fire making, gathering wood

Food preparation, the baskets that could

Be used for so much of the time that was spent

Hulling and washing and sifting, content

Messages out to the wide yonder where

The old and the young helped women prepare

recipes, fetching the berries and fruit

Drying the corn and grinding the root

Honey was gathered, Maple was boiled

Insects collected oh how they toiled

Through the night sometimes cooking a big pot of stew

Supporting the hunters and warriors who

Would need to go out before the crack of Dawn

There is just so much work in processing corn

But the women were up to it ,knowledge of old

Ancestral stories that have always been told

Corn medicines, types it’s a complex affair

But the women knew everything and they did share

Some of it comes out in Biodynamics

And Permaculture has picked up on it

These the first people incredibly practical

Perceptive and no matter what, didn’t quit

To this day the first people are struck by the evil

Technology and the advances of time

Indian Land is oft far from the cities

Having home rule though does not

prevent crime

Mass unemployment and boredom

run riot, frustration collects in the pockets

of those

Warrior spawn never made a good farmer

And so in effect they are now in the throes

Of purposeful thought as another invasion

Takes place on their land its the Corporate Man

Development that is the new kid that’s coming

An invasion of thought that still doesn’t scan

They offer employment resentment though follows

The snarl of the Corporate fashions a deal

Sadly the vulnerable don’t get the message

And they lose out big time and that is for real

So then freshnew conquests are evident this time

Technology, and with it employment of sorts

But so much is kept from them, its an invasion

By people with anything but true sound thoughts

On their land free of Covenants, Laws and the Public

Incineration and land fill is made

Corruption is commonplace, people are hoodwinked

Its with trust and health that the first people Trade

Nuclear waste is buried on their land

Pollution, Disease the vomit of those

Who live far away in their great concrete cities

As contractors roll in with trucks I suppose

Unlicensed they dump all and sundry upon them

As ill health and well the pollution risk grows

So many tribes have lost out to the wwhite man

It really was not what the First people chose

Enforcement was minimal of sacred land

A people whose ancestral logic had planned

A much safer place for their children to grow

Than a sick dumping ground where the rats and the crow

Came in their hordes bringing evil to rain

Down on their precious land space again

Water and air, is a risk to their health

The Corporate monster has slipped in by stealth

Waving their dollar bills that’s what they do

Bring their poisons polluting the first people too

All over the world the indigenous mind

Is faced by what is now a terrble bind

loss of their land to the monsters who come

With their bloody bulldozers and they do have some

Big Oil, Pesticides,The logging, Oil Palm

Uranium mining and Bauxite all harm

it is doing to land and the first people too

They are losing their way and don’t know what to do

Up against evil and money per se

Means with out outside help

they are doomed. just to pay

With their health, with their freedom

With their most precious Land

We must, see their value

Help them, understand

They were the first People

We all better learn

If they are sacrificed

We will all burn
<br
