Culture and time old
\ntraditions
\ncannot be excuses today
\nits one thing to talk about
\na turn of events
\nbut not if the animals pay<\/p>\n
what went on years ago
\ncould have been wrong
\nso that’s no excuse
\nfor continued abuse
\nwe don’t have to sing
\nthat old song<\/p>\n
this Tamil tradition
\nof taming the bulls
\nis one of the problems
\nfor now
\nconditioning them with good diets
\nand training
\nand other experiences
\nhow<\/p>\n
can it be
\nthat we subject them to
\ntorture and pain
\nin the name of tradition
\nagain and again
\nMattu Pongal day
\ncelebrations galore
\nbring out the bulls
\nthat’s what they live for<\/p>\n
thrust chilli pepper
\ninto their eyes
\nforce alcohol down them
\nthey soon realise
\nthen pinch their testicles
\nthat makes them mad
\ntie coins on their horns
\nand just see how bad<\/p>\n
and run them and chase
\nvillagers watch them get
\nup a pace
\nand if they want the money
\ntied on the bulls horns
\nthey have to leap
\nand nobody warns<\/p>\n
them this is so dangerous
\nand many die
\nthey are after the money
\nand qudos, which is why
\nits so very dangerous
\nand the bulls too
\nthough not getting killed
\nits still cruel that’s my view<\/p>\n
humanity moves on
\nthe bulls deserve more
\ntorture can never be pleasure
\nfor sure
\nwhat went on in the past
\nwent on, but now we can say
\nhumility is what we’re after today
\nwe’re more educated
\nwe feel for their plight
\nand torturing animals
\nwe know, its not right<\/p>\n
celebration and pleasure
\nis not what we get
\nfrom watching the animals
\npanic and sweat
\nchoke, snort and go frantic
\nfrom bloodied eyes
\ntheir minds in a maze
\nfrom the alcohol highs
\nand pinching their bollocks
\ncomes as no surprise
\nits wrong its so wrong
\nand if villagers die
\nand some do, then my view
\nis, its wrong so lets try<\/p>\n
and say now to India
\nJallicattu has passed
\nits sell by date
\nand honestly you
\nmust bring in controls
\nso that across the nation
\npeople can enjoy a good
\ncelebration
\nbut not at the risk
\nof animals hurt
\nand people perhaps
\ncrushed in the dirt
\nthis was a sport of the past
\nbut today
\nwe appreciate nobody
