What is a zoo?
\nits a prison, in fact
\nsome are more open
\nsome tightly packed
\nin cages, in runs
\nin areas where
\nthe public are invited
\nto witness despair<\/p>\n
take elephants
\nthey live in herds
\nand they eat
\ntons of material
\ntheir on their feet
\nfrom morning to dusk
\na foraging tribe
\nwho relate to each other
\nand, my diatribe<\/p>\n
is they never should
\nbe imprisoned at all
\nthey should be left in the
\nwild
\nthough the call
\nis protection, in case
\nthe ivory they
\npossess on their person
\nis frittered away<\/p>\n
by man
\nwho will poach
\nfor a market that’s vast
\nand these tusks are removed
\nmuch more in the past
\nbut zoo’s arn’t the answer
\nwhat we should do
\nis protect their life style
\nnot create a zoo<\/p>\n
a zoo is a way to make money
\nand they
\ninvest in vast areas
\nyes every way
\nbut many sweet souls
\nare caged all their life
\ngiven veterinary care
\nfor internal strife<\/p>\n
they are wild
\nlike the wind
\nthey must forage to gain
\nthey wander long distances
\nin sun and rain
\nthey are wild
\nits unkind to entrap
\nand create
\na place far away
\nenclosed by some gate<\/p>\n
where all of their needs
\nexcept to be free
\nare sorted by humans
\neconomically
\nfor profit comes into
\nthe equation each day
\nits a business and businesses
\ndo have to pay<\/p>\n
and like anything
\ndealing with living life forms
\nproblems arise
\ntheir are good days
\nand storms
\ncome flashing in sometimes
\nwith crushing effects
\nand imprisoned earthlings
\nmost do feel like rejects<\/p>\n
depression and various
\nailments are rife
\nthey were born to be wild
\nfor all of their life
\nin a place where the strong
\nsurvive not the weak
\nwilderness, jungle
\ntheir own homes they seek<\/p>\n
not a concrete enclave
\nwith pseudo style pools
\nhuman designs where the great ego
\ncalls
\nconcrete hard surfaces
\nand great cage control
\nthey feel penned in
\nwhich is bad for their soul<\/p>\n
they have to put up
\nwith man and his ways
\nand of course at the end of
\nthe day
\nif it pays
\nthen the zoo carries on
\nand most creatures we see
\nbut all of them
\nare then, in captivity<\/p>\n
they are just prisoners
\nplucked from the wild
\ntheir only crime
\nthe wrong place
\nthe wrong time
\ntorn from their families
\nfrom where they were born
\nand shipped miles and miles
\nto their new concrete dawn<\/p>\n
to their place in the cold
\nfrom their place in the sun
\nto the place where they stand
\nfrom the place they could run
\nto be gawped up by noise
\nwhen before they found peace
\nand never again
\nto earn their release<\/p>\n
this is the zoo
\nthat we pay for to see
\nthe great and the good
\nwhat a great place to be
\nwhere the great tiger
\npaces
\nback and forth each day
\nand the elephant has to give
\nrides everyday<\/p>\n
and their food is not wild
\nis not foraged
\njust thrown
\ndown on the ground
\nfrom some place in town
\nits all pseudo nonsense
\nfor meanwhile we see
\nhabitat loss
\nand big zoo’s that be<\/p>\n
not what the creatures want
\nno not at all
\njust vast concrete places
\nthat really appal
\nnothing is safe
\neven sea creatures are
\ncaptured and thrown
\nin the deep end, to star<\/p>\n
in themed shows
\nfor their great human beings to cheer
\nbut basically make money
\nyea, year on year
\nthe Orca’s the Dolphins
\nwere and are wild
\ndesigned to be out in the ocean
\ndefiled
\nin some tank
\nso that corporates
\nmake their fad wad
\nis truthfully thumbing
