\nThe mahouts are
\nso called kindly men
\nWho supposedly live
\nfor the elephants
\nUnder their charge
\nSo when
\nDid all this kindly
\nstuff change
\nand Wickedness creep into
\ntheir care
\nTaking the wild ones
\nand actually thinking
\nTo torture them really was fair<\/p>\n
Taking a socially active
\nHerd creature
\nliving then who
\nLoved family life
\nand respected the matriarch
\nAnd thinking it was right that you
\nCaptured these elephants
\ntook them away
\nFrom their families their life
\nAnd thought it could pay
\nThat phajaan a series of tortures would be
\nAcceptable somehow
\nAnd so we did see<\/p>\n
So many babies taken away
\nSubjected to torture
\nDestroyed all their play
\nNobody to teach them
\nJust man who would say
\nLet\u2019s put them through torture
\nLet pain be the way<\/p>\n
And so it was born
\nMan in kind began to
\nWork out contraptions
\nThat threatened to do
\nThe dirty on elephants
\nIntroduce fear
\nPain And get them all distraught
\nWhich was clear<\/p>\n
Even as big as they are
\nWhat they feel
\nIs they don\u2019t become rebels
\nor warriors Real
\nTheir memories lengthen
\nAnd they tend to be
\nrestrained and just broken in
\nAnd then angrily<\/p>\n
Harbour resentment
\nIt affects what they do
\nAnd at some stage they break
\nand then what does ensue
\nLike \u201cTyke\u201c long before
\nFrustration and pain
\nIt gets into their head
\nWith so much more strain<\/p>\n
Abuse is a bad thing
\nAnd elephants will
\nCrack some time after
\nAnd possibly kill<\/p>\n
To live with abuse
\nCan produce
\nMilitancy
\nA clarion call
\nAnd hostility
\nSomething can snap in them
\nA battle royal
\nThat is when something happens
\nAnd their brain starts to boil<\/p>\n
For years yes submissively
\nAcquiesce they
\nSurrender themselves
\nWork like hell for no pay
\nThen something clicks
\nAnd all hell breaks out and they
\nGo after someone or just run aWay<\/p>\n
We being men take advantage
\nWe feel
\nWe have the right
\nAnd they then conceal
\nTheir actual motive
\nFor a being supine
\nAnd when they break rank
\nThey are like a land mine<\/p>\n
In all directions
\nTheir anger directed
\nIf you are close
\nPerhaps you elected
\nTo ride on their backs
\nOr show a bull hook
\nAnd that was the last straw
\nPerhaps your last look<\/p>\n
And they then are shot
\nAnother soul lost
\nWe torture we threaten
\nAnd that is the cost<\/p>\n
