{"id":45564,"date":"2020-04-21T09:50:58","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T09:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=45564"},"modified":"2020-04-21T09:55:45","modified_gmt":"2020-04-21T09:55:45","slug":"a-reverence-for-cats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2020\/04\/a-reverence-for-cats\/","title":{"rendered":"A reverence for Cats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Egyptians have revered cats<br \/>\nAs Gods and goddesses they<br \/>\nWere held in high repute<br \/>\nAnd loved and cared for in a way<br \/>\nWhen cats were killed out of respect<br \/>\nThey shaved their eyebrows they<br \/>\nHeld them in sublimity<br \/>\nForever and a day<\/p>\n<p>In mythology the Goddess Bastet<br \/>\nWas respected and admired<br \/>\nShe defended the sun god RA<br \/>\nAs eye of Ra inspired<br \/>\nRa tis said her beauty<br \/>\nWas beyond belief<br \/>\nAnyone killing a cat<br \/>\nIn Egypt<br \/>\nKnew they would come to grief<br \/>\nOn purpose or by accident<br \/>\nProphesies were fulfilled<br \/>\nAnyone killing any cat<br \/>\nWould be at once killed<\/p>\n<p>When cats died<br \/>\nthey were mummified<br \/>\nAnd throughout history<br \/>\nThousands upon thousands<br \/>\nHave been found and we can see<br \/>\nIn museums all around the world<br \/>\nThese ancient cats still lie<br \/>\nIn permanence forever<br \/>\nAnd now we all know why<\/p>\n<p>When they found the temple<br \/>\nOf Bastet<br \/>\nWhat they found<br \/>\nwas 300,000<br \/>\nMummified cats deposited around<\/p>\n<p>Per means house BAST mean house<br \/>\nBastet Thus became<br \/>\nA festival of Bastet<br \/>\nAnd each   year<br \/>\nPilgrims  aim<br \/>\nTo honour the goddess reverently<br \/>\nSome 700,000 souls<br \/>\nEnjoy the reverie<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s sad therefore<br \/>\nSuch great respect and honour<br \/>\nSeemingly<br \/>\nIs not  maintained by China<br \/>\nAnd Vietnam who be<br \/>\nConsumers of these<br \/>\nLovely souls<br \/>\nand the fur industry<br \/>\nMany shops in London<br \/>\nAbuse them tragically<br \/>\nBuying clothes and selling them<br \/>\nAs Rabbit when they are cat<br \/>\nI have been at the front line<br \/>\nExposing where it\u2019s at<\/p>\n<p>Faux fur it\u2019s is often called<br \/>\nWhen only DNA<br \/>\nCan really tell which animal<br \/>\nhS tragically  had to pay<\/p>\n<p>24 cats for every coat<br \/>\nIt\u2019s happening still today<br \/>\nSomething like three million<br \/>\nCats are eaten so they say<br \/>\nThe menu reads \u201croof hare\u201d<br \/>\nOften on menu\u2019s  be sure<br \/>\nWhen choosing food in China<br \/>\nSuch facts not to ignore<\/p>\n<p>Back to gods and goddesses<br \/>\nFreya the goddess Norse<br \/>\nShe used cats to draw<br \/>\nHer carriage she felt<br \/>\nWere better than the horse<br \/>\nOr so she found and who would<br \/>\nDare to argue with her no<br \/>\nShe taught ODIN witChcraft<br \/>\nand sorcery and so<\/p>\n<p>Clearly was respected<br \/>\nIt\u2019s interesting though<br \/>\nRa was called Mau<br \/>\nPer a cats purr<br \/>\nBast a cats  house<br \/>\nMiaow<br \/>\nand Purr for per<br \/>\n\u201cMau\u201d goddess name was MUT<br \/>\nanother word often used to describe cats<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Egyptians have revered cats As Gods and goddesses they Were held in high repute And loved and cared for in a way When cats were killed out of respect They shaved their eyebrows they Held them in sublimity Forever &hellip;
