I met a young lady
\nlast evening
\nOn a youtube video
\nI watched it
\nin its entirety
\nAnd she moved me
\nJust with her glow
\nShiloh Pepin
\nborn with Sirenomelia
\nWhere she
\nCame to be known
\nas the mermaid child
\nAnd in ten years easily<\/p>\n
Reached the hearts of many
\nCertainly mine last night
\nFor she had a realisation
\nAnd epitomised
\nThe truest light
\nApparently indestructible
\nEnduring and alive
\nHer legs were fused together
\nThought impossible to survive
\nOnly one partial kidney
\nNo colon none at all
\nNo genital organs whatsoever
\nHer parents though had got the call<\/p>\n
She could\u2019t and she wouldn\u2019t
\nSurvive for this ordeal
\nWas impossible to contemplate
\nSadly that was real
\nBut Shiloh was a fighter
\nIn herself a visionary
\nShe possessed
\na marvellous little brain
\nAnd a lot of clarity<\/p>\n
Physically she had problems
\nPhenomenal it\u2019s true
\nBut she felt her incarnation
\nTo want to see it through
\nParents there who loved her
\nWho wanted her to be
\nThe child they had always wanted
\nTheir child that they could see
\nAn embodiment of reality
\nInseparable was she
\nSomewhat of an extrovert
\nBound up in constancy
\nA joyful disposition
\nAnd logical
\nShiloh was their daughter
\nThe greatest gift was she<\/p>\n
She had her own identity
\nAn authenticity
\nLiving in Kennbunkport
\nIn Maine
\nSomewhere really
\nnice to be
\nAt variance yes possibly
\nAnd unpredictability
\nBoth parents loved her equally
\nAnd she responded faithfully
\nWith equivalence and parity
\nA parable that seems to me
\nTo compliment and wholly be
\nA child whose growth was wonderfully<\/p>\n
Watched and loved with so much care
\nElmer her father and Leslie did share
\nAll of the chores
\nLove conquered all
\nCreative production
\nAnd so much did fall
\nOn the two of them able
\nAnd wanting to give
\nAll their support
\nSo their daughter would live
\nSirenomelia is very rare
\nNo frame of reference
\nActually there<\/p>\n
Conflict of opinions
\nDissent and stress
\nWas bound to arise
\nThis challenge no less
\nBut Shiloh was loving
\nA warrior too
\nWith a sense of accord
\nAnd a congruent view
\nShe was able to speak well
\nShe had a rapport
\nAnd her mind well adjusted
\nAttuned and sure
\nAn amazing character
\nIn a young soul
\nOrganically tested
\nBut had some control<\/p>\n
An outstanding mind
\nShe spoke very well
\nShe was extraordinary
\nAnd she could sell
\nHerself and essentially
\nTranscend and be
\nAble to confound
\nAnd did notably
\nAs a family
\nTheir dietary habits
\nOne saw
\nWere more on the processed foods
\nThey did ignore
\nNutrition to some extent
\nAnd Shiloh grew
\nAnd became less than able
\nTo exercise through<\/p>\n
So was put on a diet
\nA better regime
\nTo assist her young body
\nAnd try to redeem
\nAnd help her to manage
\nTo move and to climb
\nWhich helped her
\nIt did in the passing of time
\nA considerable handicap
\nThat goes without saying
\nBut her mind surpassed that
\nHeld her own and was playing
\nA role in the family
\nIn so many ways
\nHer matchless performance
\nIt did seem to raise<\/p>\n
Her up in the stakes
\nShe was competent she
\nKnew what she wanted
\nAnd where she might be
\nAll the while the doctors
\nAnd medical side
\nWere treating her
\nweighing her
\nWatching her ride
\nOver the bumps of her young life
\nTo date
\nAnd were wholly objective
\nIn what was her fate<\/p>\n
At School she was learning
\nDiscerning and knowing
\nSpoke very well
\nClearly was showing
\nAn interest in life
\nIn her life and abroad
\nHarmonised well
\nAnd received the accord
\nBut her parents were
\nArguing sadly the stress
\nIt was always difficult
\nAnd to confess
\nA breakdown occasioned
\nHer father to leave
\nand some stress to evolve
\nWhere she must achieve<\/p>\n
More she must go downstairs
\nOn her own
\nHer father had carried her down
\nShe had known
\nBut gradually practised
\nAnd found a way to try
\nAnd get down by herself
\nAnd did by and by
\nShe had that connectedness
\nA united front
\nThough It was difficult
\nStill worth a punt
\nAnd so she just did it
\nHelped by her mother
\nAnd was so philosophic
\nThere was never another<\/p>\n
Child in my lifetime
\nWho I have seen
\nWho was able to counter
\nWith a made up routine
\nWhich just goes to show
\nIf we want to we can
\nWatching her struggle
\nOh I am a fan !
\nThe medics had wanted
\nTo separate
\nHer legs but she thought NO
\nHad she Forseen her fate
\nWho knows she was able
\nShe managed and she
\nWas going to stay
\nAs she was, she felt free<\/p>\n
She learned to swim
\nWith a coach who was true
\nGentle and kind
\nAnd taught her to do
\nA whole length of the swimming baths
\nShe Did it she
\nA wonderful being
\nand just so lively
\nShe went off to camp
\nOn her own just with friends
\nHer father took her
\nFor her to tHe ends of the earth
\nFor his daughter
\nHe surely woukd go
\nThat was the love
\nThat did so freely flow<\/p>\n
She was the first mermaid Child
\nEver to
\nLive after birth
\nNearly 10
\nAnd was true to herself
\nAnd was given to be
\nWhat she really wanted
\nAnd that was key
\nWatching it last night
\nA child YES she was
\nBut her manner and calmness
\nIt was because
\nShe knew she was special
\nShe acted that way
\nShe possessed confidence
\nAnd was a ray
\nOf light for all comers
\nShe summed up things well
\nShe believed in herself
\nUnder her own spell<\/p>\n
At 10 years old she
\nDied can this be
\nThe little philosopher
\nCame from the sea
\nA mermaid perhaps
\nWhose heart and whose soul
\nWas a big as the ocean
\nAnd lived up to her role<\/p>\n
