We all see those films
\nLittle turtles I mean
\nThey dig out of the sand
\nAnd innately the scene
\nIs to fight their way forwards
\nDown to the sea
\nAnd hope they get there
\nUnscathed
\nAfter the mother has come to the beach
\nShe must struggle upwards
\nShe needs to reach
\nHigh enough up so her clutch
\nWill be sure
\nFrom the tides
\nAnd from predators
\nYes more and more<\/p>\n
Dogs,raccoons,crabs sea birds
\nall can
\nRats snakes and dingoes
\nPart of the plan
\nJackals and lizards and foxes
\nMaybe
\nout for some fresh eggs
\nJust right for tea<\/p>\n
So all of these souls have a penchant
\nFor eggs
\nThey can sniff out the clutches
\nSome use their legs
\nOthers with sisters and brothers
\nMaybe
\nslither and slide
\nAnd consume them with glee<\/p>\n
From the other side
\nLet\u2019s say the clutches are there
\nIt\u2019s warm and it\u2019s damp
\nThe time is ready
\nThe life force each champ
\nEnlivened to fight its way
\nUpwards and out
\nDown the sand down the beach
\nClippers going a clout<\/p>\n
Covered in wet sand
\nBut raring to go
\nWith their spirit of mother
\nInside them to show
\nThey are all together
\nFighting like mad
\nFlipping over and over
\nAnd some looking sad<\/p>\n
Above out of their sight
\nThe sea birds are there
\nEagles and maybe other raptors
\nAware
\nA nice tasty baby with spirit galore
\nWould just be the breakfast
\nFor them to adore<\/p>\n
So some will not reach the sea
\nNot in this life
\nThey will be
\nFeeding the eagles
\nLess strife for the sea birds
\nWell fed on fresh turtle meat
\nBut some will reach the sea
\nAnd out of the heat<\/p>\n
Into the brine
\nInto the salt
\nThe cream of the surf
\nNow they won\u2019t halt
\nTheir attempts to get sea borne
\nAnd scurry away
\nTo some coral enclave
\nAnd pass the time away<\/p>\n
But dangers exist
\nOther turtles around
\ncrocodiles,laid on the ground
\nOf the sea all just waiting
\nFor babies to show
\nLike the sharks and the orcas
\nWho swim too and fro<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s say the turtles escape all the dangers
\nThey are in tHe sea
\nAnd now they must try
\nOf all the great clutches their mothers
\nHave laid
\nperhaps ten percent cent
\nIn the end can be weighed
\nUp to be hatching and matching mama
\nAnd will go on to be a turtle star<\/p>\n
Sadly a virus causing tumour May come<\/p>\n
And then there are tHe dreaded humans
\nAnd some
\nKnown as Aboriginies with native rights
\nWho will spear them in bays
\nIn spurious fights<\/p>\n
This is the story of the turtle brigade
\nOf the mothers who make the great struggle
\nHaving laid
\nclutches of eggs on beaches around
\nHundreds and hundreds hoping they are not found<\/p>\n
They are not eaten but left to become
\nTurtles for clearly extinction for some
\nThey now are really relevant
\nAnd we can say<\/p>\n
That dugong and sea turtles
\n have had their day
\nAboriginies need to take stock
\nand to see
\nExtinction is closer,
\nand so maybe
\nThey must stop
\ntheir wholesale killing TODAY
\nNative rights don\u2019t mean anything
\nNow anyway<\/p>\n
Extinction is on the cards
\nturtles in shock
\nDugongs extinction
\nthe final knock is coming
\nAnd Indigenous
\nall around the world
\nmust stop killing
\nDUGONGS AND SEA TURTLES
\nboth hurled
\nInto a maelstrom
\nof evil and pain
