A walk in the woodland
\nWith a sharp eye to see
\nThe beautiful pasqueflower
\nWind born and free
\nIt\u2019s feathery sepals
\nA sentinel who
\nIs a signboard to Spring
\nWhen the coolest of dew
\nHangs from the leaves
\nIt\u2019s a masculine soul
\nRuled over by Mars
\nWhich doth control
\nPatterns of protection
\nIn Hertfordshire where
\nI live at the moment
\nSo please be aware
\nIt is the county flower
\nIt\u2019s gentle though frail
\nAnd by Easter it can be overlooked
\nOn the trail
\nGrowing very slowly and sparsely
\nWe need
\nEyes Bright and clear
\nIf we are to succeed<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a good way to see
\nHow ancient woods are
\nWhere anemones flourish
\nThough in essence they star
\nTheir spread is low key
\nPreferring to be
\nPollinated by hoverflies
\nNever the bee<\/p>\n
They are shy ballerinas
\nWhose toxic refrain
\nWill Slow down the heart
\nVia a purpose full vein
\nIn an iron rich soil pasque flowers
\nFleetingly they
\nLet their dropping blossoms
\nAnd the wind kind of play
\nFraility offers the eye
\nAnd sweet sense
\nSmellfox it\u2019s known as
\nThe leaves that suspense
\nOf thinking a fox must have just brushed
\nBy
\nAnd scattered it\u2019s scent
\nIn the blink of an eye<\/p>\n
Anemonin is the substance
\nWe hear
\nThat chemists May speak of
\nA substance to fear
\nFrom the buttercup family
\nToxic and mean
\nThough the petals
\nProduce a dye which is green
\nWhich some use for Easter Eggs
\nAnd a curious hue
\nA translucent natural shade
\nThat does imbue<\/p>\n

\nThe witches may deign
\nTo advise in a spell or two
\nReally how green
\nAre my eggs on this April day
