An old German shepherd
\nFrom a construction site
\nChained up during the day
\nAnd guarding at night
\nThrough all the weather
\nThe climate dared throw
\nAnd shot away sadly
\nBy the wind and the snow<\/p>\n
Clearly disabled
\n and suffering so
\n\u201cMartha\u201d was ailing
\nbut no one would show
\nUp and help her
\nno finances towards a vet
\nAnd so she was left there
\nto whimper just set
\nStill in her constancy
\nSuffering so
\nClearly heart breaking
\nWith no where to go<\/p>\n
When your old and your weary
\nAnd your legs they pain so
\nJust any movement
\nand tears start to flow
\nNo pain medication
\nno food anywhere
\nJust any movement
\nbrings on pure despair
\nAnd a general heartlessness
\nmakes it all feel
\nNobody loves you that much is real
\nAll alone all the day
\nno one to see
\nHow much you are suffering
\nAnd why must it be<\/p>\n
Sharing compassion
\ncan help a lot
\nBut just on ones own
\nwhat have you got
\nJust the pain talking
\nto yourself muttering you
\nWant just to sleep
\nand not wake up you do
\nI know how she feels
\nit\u2019s a terrible feeling
\nAnd it\u2019s relentless
\nand very revealing<\/p>\n
We found her and took her
\nAnd the vet thought that she
\nNeeded x Rays
\nand love if she was to be
\nHelped her sweet face is marked with the pain
\nBut her eyes still see hope
\nFrom her brilliant refrain<\/p>\n
She has had the surgery
\nAnd what she needs is a set of wheels
\nIt\u2019s those kinds of deeds
\nThat help an old soul
\nA watcher let\u2019s say
\nWho took on her stints at the end of each day
\nAnd time and age turned her
\nTo a disabled soul
\nWho still had a heart
\nAnd of course a great soul.<\/p>\n
