Sometimes mankind attributes
\nSuccess in what they do
\nAnd takes on perhaps the reason
\nThat it\u2019s us who muddles through
\nWhen perhaps it\u2019s disrespecting
\nMOTHER NATURE who
\nHas all the facts before her
\nAnd knows exactly what to do<\/p>\n
One such case was Cane Toads
\nIt seemed a good idea.
\nBack in 1935 when beetles
\nDid appear
\nMono sugar production
\nVast fields of it
\nWere sown
\nIt was about the money
\nAnd massive amounts were grown
\nnature wouldn\u2019t have done
\nThis without diversity
\nThis mono culture effort
\nWas an utter travesty<\/p>\n
Two wrongs will never make a right
\nBut unlike Nature we
\nAre engaged in making money
\nFor the corporatocracy
\nIt\u2019s eyes are on the balance sheet
\nNo triple bottom line
\nProfits without a prophet
\nAround to keep things fine<\/p>\n
And so they imported CANE TOADS
\nTo gobble cane beetles for they
\nWere ruining the sugar cane
\nAnd that was not the way
\nRemember there were no prophets
\nJust bankers and their creed
\nAs ignorant as the day is long
\nDriven by pure greed<\/p>\n
Rather than reduce the sugar cane
\nAnd grow other balancing plants
\nBring in another wrong idea
\nGive that thought a chance
\nForgetting that these Cane Toads
\nWere as toxic as hell
\nAnd any native creature
\nEating them would not fare well<\/p>\n
Man kind is wholly arrogant
\nIt\u2019s only him that is right
\nWhat does Mother Nature know
\nWhy would they invite.
\nher to sort the problem
\nWhen man is Number one
\nHe forgets he cannot control the wind
\nNeither did he make the sun<\/p>\n
And so batches of cane toads
\nWere introduced and they
\nWent to Cairns & Gordonvale and InnisFail
\nTo prey
\nOn the sugar beetles
\nThen Ingham Ayr and more
\nAnd they absolutely loved the place
\nReally did adore<\/p>\n
All these beetles everywhere
\nThe warm and sunny clime
\nLeaving America and getting to Australia
\nIn time
\nThe distances of travel made Cane toads legs
\nGrow stronger
\nbigger they could migrate further faster
\nEven longer
\nQueensland into New South Wales and the Northern Territories too
\nThe Torres Strait Islands and even Kakadu
\nBegan to feel the clamour
\nWhat was the hullabaloo
\nArmies of these toxic toads
\nComing after you<\/p>\n
Unbeknown to the arrogance
\nto the human mind
\nNature has some good ideas
\nand over time will find
\nWays of their curtailment
\nThe meat ant being one
\nwho immune to their toxins
\nand will eat them
\nand the fun
\nThey have for cane toads standing
\nstill not running away
\nWhilst hordes of meat ants scoff them
\nMake the blighters pay<\/p>\n
That\u2019s Nature using remedies
\nWorked out that will be
\nSustainable and balanced
\nin the scheme of things
\nAnd we
\nShould learn from her
\nbut man is tops
\nHe flops
\nwhere ere he be
\nNever learns from his errors
\nHe is too arrogant you see<\/p>\n
The black kite eats
\nthe Cane Toad
\nAvoiding its belly they
\nHave the knowledge
\nand they know
\nHow to get away
\nWith nutrition
\nwithout the toxin
\nOther species too
\nHave the programmed secrets
\nAnd know what to do<\/p>\n
Meanwhile the Cane Toad era
\nand their armies
\nOn the run
\nSee Skinks and Quolls
\nAnd Snakes and the Goanna
\nAll but done
\nIn by toxic substances
\nmans lack of adequacy
\nHis arrogance
\nand his ignorance defeats
\nHis wish to be<\/p>\n
Then what kicks in
\nis his weirdness
\nhis basic disrespect
\nHis irreverence for Nature
\nWhich when it is unchecked
\nSees disparagement
\nand disfavour
\nand insolence
\nat work
\nSees insulting and disdainful
\nIn his ugly mind they lurk<\/p>\n
Leather from the skin of toads
\nThen Cane Toad Golf and Cricket
\nUsing the toad as the ball to hit
\nOn a sticky wicket<\/p>\n
These invasive species
\nWere truly the extreme
\nOur mono culture madness
\nWe never heard the scream
\nWe marched on through the madness
\nForgoing Nature who
\nKnows best taking longer
\nBut knowing what to do
\nGradually introducing
\nMore factors to control
\nRebalancing the eco system
