A wound behind his head
\nWhere he was unable to lick clean
\nAnd in that neglectful period
\nIt began to look obscene
\nAs the blow fly maggots
\nGobbled up the festering flesh
\nAnd blood
\nIn a couple days it\u2019s was awful
\nIt was a gaping flood<\/p>\n
The pain of deterioration
\nSpoiling and misuse
\nThe poor soul lying in the dirt and dust
\nSo much abuse
\nCalled we took one look at him
\nEyes closed waiting for
\nThe servant with his sickle
\nTo end his life for sure<\/p>\n
Wrapping him in our blanket
\nWe carried him away
\nPut him in our surgery
\nAnd powdered him
\nA day kills the maggots
\nAnd removing them
\nAnd the dead skin
\nAll the nectrotic tissue
\nThat we could find within<\/p>\n
The wound was wast and bloody
\nWashed and cleaned
\nAnd we dressed it every single day
\nFor a week and we could see
\nThat with our care and attention
\nAnd the fresh dressing each day
\nThe wound was getting smaller
\nAnd healing in every way<\/p>\n
\u201cMarshall\u201d was brave boy
\nThe perfect patient he
\nClearly knew we were helping him
\nNot a yelp at all he be
\nGiven to the need to heal
\nAnd that is what we saw
\nEach time we changed his dressings
\nThe wound was much less raw<\/p>\n
His powers of healing clearly
\nHis positivity
\nHis courage and commitment
\nAll of us could see
\nHe ate well
\nAnd before too long
\nWas walking on the rein
\nAnd before too long was running
\nHis tail wagging hard again<\/p>\n
