We are really up against it
\nWalking as we do
\nWhere accidents with trains
\nAre constant and a clue
\nThe virtue of our being
\nIn places where we must
\nCross railways in our passage
\nJust victims in the dust
\nThe thrust of speed and ignorance
\nDoth settle in our soul
\nOur suffering is tantamount
\nTo losing all control
\nAgainst such heavy metal
\nOf course a damaging trait
\nReally becomes injurious
\nWhen neither of us wait
\nSuffering is greater
\nThe shock value of the dark
\nUnwittingly egregiously
\nAltogether stark<\/p>\n
It\u2019s frighteningly simple
\nHow wayward we become
\nOur historic water trails
\nThe constant thumping drum
\nOf Our heart beat in the making
\nShould survivors on a path
\nImprinted in our memory
\nAnd shaken by the wrath
\nOf a tumultuous collision
\nAs an engines clattering force
\nPropels a silent sentinel
\nBack into its source
\nBloodied up and weary
\nIn a shocking turn of thought
\nWhere mobility lies broken
\nWhere care itself was sought<\/p>\n
Us pachyderms are suffering
\nSome injured badly we
\nFeel the torment of the night
\nAs many fail to see
\nThe lumbering grey shadows
\nThat fetch the gloom and stay.
\nBroken and forgotten
\nAt the back end of the day.<\/p>\n
Battered and left bleeding
\nUnable to regain
\nA sensible intrusion
\nAnd the ensuing pain
\nBusted legs and torn up skin
\nA devilish idea
\nWe have lost our rights of freedom
\nWhilst along comes yet more fear<\/p>\n
Due care and attention
\nWe feel is needed here
\nRespect enjoys it\u2019s sequence
\nThat much we know is clear
\nIt can take years of hard graft
\nAnd sensible debate
\nTo work out paths and safety first
\nThat no one dare berate
\nLying injured bleeding
\nNobody around
\nSmarting from the torn skin
\nIn shock and awe we are drowned
\nWaiting for the end to come
\nThe phantom our demise
\nCut short by the railway man
