Unadulterated fear
\nAs far as the eyes can see
\nThe heat that\u2019s coming at us
\nBeing felt by me
\nAn agony where all I know
\nIs rapidly no more
\nAll the trees
\nThe birds and bees
\nAre in an unholy war<\/p>\n
Which way should we run to
\nWhichever way we choose
\nAgony is out there
\nIt is just bad news
\nThe silent screams are loudest
\nWhen friends are close at hand
\nWhen rivulets of fire and brimstone
\nRush across this land<\/p>\n
At every turn the burning
\nThe sensation of the fire
\nTo be eternally frightened
\nTo know one\u2019s life is dire
\nThe noise of conflagration
\nThe swallowing of air
\nThe burning racking cracking
\nThose noises they all scare<\/p>\n
The darkly smell of burning
\nTurning toward where
\nExhaustion and it\u2019s infamy
\nThat every soul does share
\nMothers and their babies
\nElders and their friends
\nSuffering the vagaries
\nThat perhaps just never ends<\/p>\n
The sky is full of yellow
\nAnd also spattered red
\nA rainbow of emotions
\nWhere many souls are dead
\nCaught up in the firestorm
\nBurning everywhere
\nLike a flaming dervish
\nBreathing pure despair<\/p>\n
Enemies together
\nSharing breathing space
\nClutching at each other
\nAll hopeful as we chase
\nThis way that way any way
\nTo enter a bold peace
\nAnd not hear the constant pleading
\nOf those seeking release<\/p>\n
We are burning up
\nTime waits no longer
\nThe firestorm everywhere
\nWe run into each other
\nEvery breath we share
\nScorched and burnt a cinder
\nBlack and wizened we
\nAre holed up in this life of ours
\nWhat of our destiny<\/p>\n
Death on every level
\nFrom the ground up to the sky
\nEvery creature suffering
\nTheir cries and some now die
\nEverywhere like tinder
\nMarsupials in flight
\nEvery single entity
\nCaught up in the blight<\/p>\n
Great curtains of resentment
\nAre now just everywhere
\nThe bickering is sickening
\nWe know that nothings clear
\nThe dust the dirt the ash the soil
\nEverywhere we go
\nIs burning and concerning
\nWhether high or low<\/p>\n
And will there be a let up
\nOr are we doomed to be
\nVictims everyone of us
\nEven those we cannot see
\nIn the ground under rocks
\nUp the tallest tree
\nSavaged by the raging heat
\nThat\u2019s even come for me<\/p>\n
My hair is dark and shrivelled
\nMy breath is painfully
\nBurning in my troubled breast
\nWhere once I too was free
\nTo leap across the outback
\nTo whistle with the breeze
\nBut now my life is ebbing
\nAnd I feel it in my knees<\/p>\n
Fear and strong emotions
\nAre out there in the night
\nEven the moon is crying
\nAngered by the blight
\nStorm clouds they are coming
\nThere are no paths no more
\nAll lead to a hell on Earth
\nAnd of being extra sore<\/p>\n
Can you hear the prayers of all of us
\nCollectively we shout
\nWe are the wind we are the rain
\nWe are what life\u2019s about
\nWith every step the desperation
\nComes back the other way
\nWe are dancing at the end of life
