A very old dog
\nWas lying alone
\nTucked around a bush
\nHis spirit had flown
\nCurled and suffering
\nFlies everywhere
\nA great open wound on his stomach
\nTo share
\nWith the wriggling maggots
\nBusily feeding
\nHis ear half torn off
\nWhich had clearly been bleeding
\nLost to the world
\nNot a friend anywhere
\nNobody saw him
\nJust lying there
\nHis bones all protruding
\nA real sorry state
\nWe lifted him carefully
\nHe was no weight
\nWrapped in our blanket
\nWe took him to see
\nThe angels and laid him down
\nSo carefully<\/p>\n
Used maggot powder all over him
\nAnd
\nBandaged the wounds
\nYes understand
\nWe have to kill all of them
\nThats what we do
\nSedate him and clean all his wounds
\nHose him through
\nHe must have been in the most
\nTerrible pain
\nHe lay there so broken
\nSo much disdain
\nFor life his big eyes
\nMournful and serene
\nAnxious and fretting
\nI am sure he had been<\/p>\n
we cut away all of the necrotic skin
\nRemoved his right ear
\nHe was hoping
\n to win
\nThrough we were sure
\nBy day 25 he was still
\nVery weak
\nWith cuddles and care
\nAnd love he did seek
\nAll of our ladies loved him
\nAnd he
\nDear little “Baloo”
\nPulled through
\nHe was free<\/p>\n
From all of that pain
\nAnd suffering he
\nBegan just to play
\nIn the dust every day
\nOne eared and old
\nBut raring to go
\nTo be with our ladies
\nAhead of the show<\/p>\n
