A leash around his straggly neck
\nAnd on the pavement he
\nWaiting for old death to come
\nHis sickle swinging free
\nObviously abandoned
\nA puppy in distress
\nSuffering the vagaries
\nOf climate, so much stress
\nPiled upon young shoulders
\nSome human being had
\nJust dumped the puppy on it\u2019s own
\nIs there anything more sad
\nThe poor soul it was starving
\nIt\u2019s bones were in full view
\nIt\u2019s coat was full of
\nDemodectic mange
\nWhat could we do
\nFortunately an angel
\nThere are some thanks for she
\nScooped him up
\nAnd took him off to the veterinary<\/p>\n
He was terribly underweight
\nHadn\u2019t ate for days
\nClearly Dehydrated too
\nIn his final phase
\nPhysically and mentally
\nAs low as one can be
\n\u201cPotchie\u201d really in so much pain and angst
\nAnd Adversity
\nWas his to own and his alone
\nHis suffering immense.
\nAlmost everything that could go wrong
\nHad gone wrong it made no sense
\nA baby left to die out on the streets
\nA terrible act
\nHardly human such neglect
\nBut That folks was a fact<\/p>\n
His ears were both infected
\nAs were his eyes as well
\nOne of his legs a cracked bone
\nThe mange is straight from hell
\nAnd he had it all over
\nThe itch and agony
\nMust have driven him up the wall
\nI know it would for me<\/p>\n
Anaemia was prevalent
\nAnd so first we must clean
\nExfoliate and wash his skin
\nHis poor body so lean
\nBones just poking through the skin
\nA skeleton on legs
\nWe massaged him we cuddled him
\nThe more I see
\nIt begs
\nThe question, about people
\nWho neglect our animals friends
\nOne look at this joyful soul
\nThat\u2019s where my allegiance ends<\/p>\n
Human being sicken me
\nThey use their big gobs well
\nBut when they mistreat the animals
\nI wish them only hell
\nAnd lots of boiling water
\nFor honestly to me
\nThey are the vilest sickest
\nFolk that really could ever be<\/p>\n
To abandon baby animals
\nIt\u2019s mother not in sight
\nThe fear that puppy suffered
\nHow can that be right
\nWe spoke to him and loved him
\nAssured that he\u2019d be
\nSafe and sound forever
\nWith an end to purgatory.<\/p>\n
Weeks and weeks of treatments
\nAcupuncture Too
\nPhysio each morning
\nHolistic healing through
\nEvery waking hour in fact
\nAnd gradually he became
\nStronger and much healthier
\nAnd he enjoyed a game
\nWalking we had practiced
\nFor hours on end and he
\nGradually got the hang of it
\nAnd began to walk and be
\nConfident to try it more
\nAnd With harness help we saw
\nAll his legs got stronger
\nThough clearly he was sore<\/p>\n
He is now 12 months old
\nHis hairs grown back
\nAnd all is well
\nHis confidence has risen
\nHe is with me
\nAnd this spell
\nHas been a wonderful happening
\nWatching him really grow
\nInto a beautiful CHOW CHOW
\nWith tall tale crimson glow<\/p>\n
When we found him
\nHe was close to death
\nAnd now he is right as rain
\nBounces around the yard today
\nLove has helped him gain
\nConfidence and willingness
\nTo be our joyful friend
\nAnd hopefully we can be together
\nUntil the very end.<\/p>\n
