Truly
\nshe was abandoned
\nOut on the street was she
\nStruggling with the dust and flies
\nAnd the emergency
\nA wound had ripped her underside
\nExposing her lung
\nBreathing became difficult
\nThe plight of the unsung<\/p>\n
The total lack of pity
\nBy passers by she saw
\nHer agony was magnified
\nShe was living through a war
\nReally not of her making
\nShe was lonely and in pain
\nNobody to love her
\nShe was going insane<\/p>\n
Her inadequacy of being
\nWas paramount as she
\nStruggled really to not be seen
\nAnd so invisibly
\nShe slunk into the tall grass
\nAnd the rubbish around a bout
\nHopeful that death with his sickle
\nPerformed her final rout<\/p>\n
And animal aid unlimited
\nWere called and they were there
\nSeeing the extent of injuries
\nThey were so aware
\nThat She was close to dying
\nAnd saved her straight away
\nTook her off to hospital
\nWithout more delay<\/p>\n
She was bleeding heavily
\nBreathing was laboured too
\nShe was old and weary
\nAnd so the angel crew
\nBegan to then inspect her wounds
\nTo clean her up and they
\nSedated her
\nAnd began to perform surgery
\nRight away<\/p>\n
Attention to the flapping skin
\nTo the injuries she bore
\nExamined all the tissues
\nAnd stitched her up and more
\nThey dressed the wounds
\nAnd laid her fast
\nTo rest away the ill
\nShe wouldn\u2019t eat for a while it seems
\nShe just laid very still<\/p>\n
\u201cMaxine\u201d was a fighter though
\nWith loads of love and care
\nThe angels, several helped her
\nThey fed her and helped her share
\nSlowly she got better
\nHer tail began to wag
\nHer wound was dressed for days and days
\nAnd soon out playing tag<\/p>\n
With other dogs around the yard
\nMarvellously for her
\nConsidering her injuries
\nSoon her op shaved fur
\nHad grown back and nobody
\nWould have known the extent of pain
\nAnd watching her romp in the sunlight
\nKnew it was not in vain<\/p>\n
To all intents and purposes
\nAnother day or two
\nShe would have died for certain
\nThe flies the dust they do
\nThreaten our existence
\nAnd \u201cMaxine\u201d must have felt
\nClose to death upon that day
