The rope was tight around his leg
\nHis flesh torn open wide
\nNeglect had caused the injury
\nThe rot was deep inside
\nIt must have been so terrible
\nWhen we found him lying there
\nSo many tears had fallen
\nBut few were that aware<\/p>\n
Human beings clearly
\nMany fail to see
\nThe pain and the suffering
\nOf others frantically
\nA crying out, but few as I have said
\nReady to step up and help
\nAnd No where to lie his head<\/p>\n
Just on the dusty street
\nMore painful everyday
\nThen animal aid unlimited
\nWere called and they did pay
\nAttention to poor “Leon”
\nA worker all his days
\nLying injured waiting for
\nSomebody to raise<\/p>\n
His case before the angels
\nAnd today YES seemingly
\nThey came and collected him
\nAnd soon he would be free
\nOf all the vile neglect around
\nAnd constant cruelty
\nHe would be with friends who care
\nWhere he wanted to be<\/p>\n
Sedated him and removed the rope
\nAnd, all the dead skin
\nWashed and cleaned the wound
\nAdded the maggot powder
\nSin
\nOf this kind, on a working soul
\nSo driven, is for me
\nThe worst kind of neglect in fact
\nThen we dressed the wound to see<\/p>\n
How he felt as the days passed
\nWe brushed him and we cared
\nChanged his dressings daily
\nHis leg infact was spared
\nHe ate fresh leaves
\nAnd we loved him
\nHe was so starving of care
\nCuddling him we felt his love
\nHe had so much to share<\/p>\n
I dont think anyone before
\nHas loved him What a shame
\nThey had worked him day and night
\nThere was no one we coukd blame
\nIn his war of
\nattrition no remission
\nAnd heart felt
\nHe recovered and is happy
\nWith the new cards that we’ve dealt<\/p>\n
No more heavy loads no ropes
\nTo tear his precious skin
\nNo kicks no punches he
\nCould stay with us
\nIt was win win
\nIn our yard for Evermore
\nTo roam to rest and be
\nloved with other donkey friends
\nFor our eternity<\/p>\n
