Wildness has its advantages
\nBut injuries can be
\nLife threatening we know this
\nAnd inevitably<\/p>\n
Some of us see the angels
\nMen and women who
\nDevote their lives to caring
\nAnd one such case thats true<\/p>\n
Happened in Zimbabwe
\nAn elephant in pain
\nClearly two legs damaged
\nAnd walking under strain<\/p>\n
It was a younger elephant
\nIn a herd and so
\nThe need was to tranquilise
\nThe beast
\nTo examine and to know<\/p>\n
But the other family members
\nClearly they all cared
\nAnd so the need to anaethetise
\nThe matriarch who shared<\/p>\n
Not only the love and commitment
\nBut the sleeping draught as well
\nSo they could work on healing
\nFor the caring spell<\/p>\n
When both of the elephants
\nWere sleeping they began
\nTo examine the poor injured one
\nAnd the wounds were deep, the plan<\/p>\n
To clean and remove the maggots
\nUse antibiotics and scrub
\nReally clean the deep wound out
\nAnd leave a bright blue rub<\/p>\n
On the legs to combat
\nBacteria and we saw
\nin just a short time
\nA wild soul who the team could not ignore<\/p>\n
What was the undoubted suffering
\nAnd when the soul came around
\nGot up and just walked off
\nWith a little trumpet sound.<\/p>\n
One wonders whether he realised
\nWhat had happened there
\nAnd how his leg had improved so much
\nAnd he wasn’t in despair<\/p>\n
