{"id":42864,"date":"2019-10-05T09:11:42","date_gmt":"2019-10-05T09:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=42864"},"modified":"2019-10-05T09:18:09","modified_gmt":"2019-10-05T09:18:09","slug":"orangutan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2019\/10\/orangutan\/","title":{"rendered":"Orangutan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inherited characteristics<br \/>\nThat mindful chemistry<br \/>\nThe Orangutan its innermost<br \/>\nTrue heredity<br \/>\nAre Doomed it seems<br \/>\nFor it happens<br \/>\nthat Palm oil is the way<br \/>\nPlantations are more lucrative<br \/>\nThat is what they say<br \/>\nAllowed the space<br \/>\nAllowed the run<br \/>\nTo fly up in the canopy<br \/>\nSearching for the sun<br \/>\nA creature with deep feeling<br \/>\nWith emotions likely to<br \/>\nBe stronger than the shooters<br \/>\nWho have a mawkish view<\/p>\n<p>Working for the palm oil<br \/>\nMerchants<br \/>\nThe corporations who<br \/>\nPay their measly wages<br \/>\nAnd just do what they do<br \/>\nTear down all the forest trees<br \/>\nSlash and burn for fun<br \/>\nAnnihilate the natural world<br \/>\nBefore  the day is done<br \/>\nTravelling  in Borneo<br \/>\nRecently we heard<br \/>\nAn Orangutan had been injured<br \/>\nHow it had occurred<br \/>\nWe were not sure<br \/>\nBut drove to see<br \/>\nIt took us through the night<br \/>\nAs a wild life vet<br \/>\nI couldn\u2019t believe<br \/>\nAnd knew it wasn\u2019t right<\/p>\n<p>It had been already rescued<br \/>\nAnd was laying in a cage<br \/>\nWe thought it was a female<br \/>\nIts state was off the page<br \/>\nSo thin and emaciated<br \/>\nAlive but frightened so<br \/>\nIt had been shot 130 times<br \/>\nSomething to know<br \/>\nWhich actually turned my stomach<br \/>\nWrenched into my soul<br \/>\nThese animals are wonderful<br \/>\nThey share all of our fears<br \/>\nThey are so close to being<br \/>\nHuman in their way<br \/>\nLooking into their deep set eyes<br \/>\nWhy would they have to pay<br \/>\nWe thought it was a female<br \/>\nBut turned out to a boy<br \/>\nAbout five years it had managed<br \/>\nBut not five years of joy<br \/>\nAt least two machete<br \/>\nWounds alas<br \/>\nAnd as skinny as could be<br \/>\nFound hanging  near the river<br \/>\nOff what was a busted tree<br \/>\nTheir experience is awful<br \/>\nTheir instinct tells them they<br \/>\nShould be in the canopy<\/p>\n<p>Every single day<br \/>\nThey love to hang to swing to nest<br \/>\nThe high tops are theirs<br \/>\nResponsive and so spirited<br \/>\nWith the forests rich affairs<br \/>\nOil palm is an anathema<br \/>\nA darkly sodden space<br \/>\nWhere true life is extinguished<br \/>\nThe clamour that we face<br \/>\nThe colour and the energy<br \/>\nThat The rainforests<br \/>\ncreate<br \/>\nBursting with a life force<br \/>\nAnd in stead the awful fate<br \/>\nOf rats and the black cobras<br \/>\nAnd little else around<br \/>\nThe gushing effusive forests<br \/>\nThat once did so abound<br \/>\nStocked with myriad life forms<br \/>\nGodly created souls<br \/>\nTorn and ripped to sunder<br \/>\nBy selfish ugly trolls<\/p>\n<p>So this handsomely beautiful red ape<br \/>\nDied that night despite<br \/>\nUs driving all those miles to see<br \/>\nIt never regained its sight<br \/>\nA hopeless  search for freedom<br \/>\nAn inevitable desire<br \/>\nTo search the bold wet canopy<br \/>\nAnd run from the palm oil fire.<br \/>\nTo suffer the immensity<br \/>\nOf ugliness and rage<br \/>\nOverwhelmed and awestruck<br \/>\nToo much for them to gauge<br \/>\nThe life is clearly being stolen<br \/>\nFrom them to acquire<br \/>\nTheir precious trees<br \/>\nTheir fruits and leaves<br \/>\nAnd be fodder for the fire<\/p>\n<p>BBC STORY<br \/>\nOne Paul Ramos<br \/>\nWild life vet<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inherited characteristics That mindful chemistry The Orangutan its innermost True heredity Are Doomed it seems For it happens that Palm oil is the way Plantations are more lucrative That is what they say Allowed the space Allowed the run To &hellip;
