Old in the tooth
\nwith eyes that still
\nidentify true beauty
\nwill
\nthose eyes with eyebrows
\nturning white
\nbe looking at, beauty
\ntonight
\nor will they look at
\n4 bare walls
\nan empty bed
\nand a cat that calls
\nthe tune who knows
\nshe rules the place
\nmildly mannered and
\nfull on grace<\/p>\n

For years I searched
\nthe canal side
\nwalked my legs off
\nwhere did she hide?
\nsomewhere in amongst the reeds
\nand all the while my old heart
\nbleeds<\/p>\n

then I saw her
\ncould it be
\nthere she was
\nin front of me
\nthat amazing face
\nthose amazing eyes

\nMy legs were jelly
\nonce again
\nand my searching
\nhad not been in vain<\/p>\n

old in the tooth
\nbut feeling calm
\nresolute insight
\nand some charm
\nan experience of how to be
\nloving, and caring earnestly
\nunlike the young
\nso arrogant
\nso abusive
\nhot, maybe
\na six pack
\nan armani suit
\nbut they can’t
\ncompete with me<\/p>\n

My goddess
\nsuch a sweet refrain
\nI was back in love again
\nold in the tooth
\nmaybe so
\nbut this time
\nI dare not let her go
\ngreat stars of light
\nand looking right
\nthe way she walks
\nthe way she smiles
\nthe way she breathes
\nall those miles
\nsearching, hoping one day you

the need to care
