The old gal was a century or more
\nA life so long
\nPacked with many a struggle
\nMuch of it so wrong
\nShe was in the trekking
\nGiving rides to those
\nTourists who could walk
\nTheir lazy arses off
\nBut chose<\/p>\n
To ride a great big elephant
\nClamber on its soul
\nAll the weight of modern times
\nGrinding down control
\nThe biggest of land animals
\nPachyderms ofcourse
\nThey can all be driven hard
\nAs a matter of course<\/p>\n
And so despite sore feet and
\nBacks
\nTheir stint every day
\nWas slaving under the hot sun
\nWorking was the way
\nCarrying our great weight
\nAnd the body and the fools
\nWho came to ride an elephant
\nDespite the trusted schools<\/p>\n
Of thought about how cruel it was
\nTourists who are they
\nThey want to ride an elephant
\nAnd do it every day
\nThis a great land animal
\nWho has the right to say
\nNO i am tired let me rest
\nBut not today<\/p>\n
They are forced to work
\nTo earn the musty crust
\nExhaustion comes
\nto everyone
\nWho labours in the dust
\nAnd hears the drums
\nShe had had five sweet babies
\nBut all of them had died
\nThe solace of a mother
\nSadly was defied<\/p>\n
She remembered every single one
\nAnd for many nights she cried
\nAll five babies gone to heaven
\nAll of them grew inside
\nHer body she had fed them
\nCarried them each day
\nAll through the long pregnancy
\nShe had to work to pay<\/p>\n
Her struggle was regardless
\nOf any pain she felt
\nShe knew about the sticks and whips
\nAnd the mahouts belt
\nA quiet life was the best idea
\nTo just work all the hours
\nAnd try to sleep and try to dream
\nAnd to reserve her powers<\/p>\n
For thoughts and dreams
\nOf the next life when ever that would be
\nAnd so in 2016 they finally
\nSaid that we
\nAre giving you the time off
\nAnd no more work for you
\nAnd i went to a sanctuary
\nWhich I wanted to do<\/p>\n
It was the Elephant Natural Park
\nA brand new place for me
\nJust to relax a little
\nWas I 93 or was I close to 100
\nA century of sin
\nNo telegram from anyone
\nAnd altogether thin<\/p>\n
And then another elephant
\nCalled Dok Geaw came along
\nHe was a little orphan
\nHe didnt belong
\nTo anyone no mother
\nNobody he knew
\nAnd he came a snuggled close to me
\nAnd I took the view<\/p>\n
I had lost my babies
\nAnd, he might just be
\nOne of them who dares to say
\nAt least he wants to see
\nHimself close to my being
\nAnd it occurs to me
\nThat I can be a surrogate
\nWhy not actually<\/p>\n
And so that is the journey
\nHe stays with me all day
\nWe walks and talks and I am teaching
\nHim along the way
\nAnd recently the park have been building
\nMe a pool
\nIt took a lot of man power
\nIt took a lot of wall<\/p>\n
But it is finished actually
\nAnd water bathing does
\nSoften up my muscles
\nAnd just give me that buzz
\nThis propels me forward
\nTo help the tiny one
\nAnd so we both have found happiness
