On a hot dry street
\nLies an old sick dog
\ndisregarded for an age
\nUnattended and left alone
\nClearly off the page
\nOf life and care and loving
\nSickly through and through
\nWounded unable to walk

Animal aid unlimited
\nThe measure of true souls
\nCome and stroke and love him
\nOne with given roles
\nTo rescue and to care for him

Back at the place of caring
\nWashed and cared for he
\nDried his wounds all dusted and cleaned

\nHand fed by syringe
\nAs gentle as can be
\nAnd just shown some love and care

The powers of thought
\nReturning
\nA sharpness in his gait
\nA soundness and a balance
\nSomehow he can state
\nHis need to become independent
\nOf heart of mind of soul
\nClearly regaining potential

\nGiven without wrath
\nGentle and forgiving
