The moorlands are spectacular
\nManaged maybe so
\nBut created by the almighty hand
\nOf the gods of long ago
\n\u201cLagopus lagopus Scotia\u201d
\nThe red grouse that is I
\nAn autumnal plumage of red and brown
\nA black tail and white legs
\nI fly
\nFaster than some
\nand slower than others
\nOut over the moorlands where we
\nLove the rich heather
\nIt\u2019s sweet verdant shoots
\nAnd, It\u2019s tiny bell flowers
\nGrowing free
\nSome pink and some purple
\nCreations broad brush
\nThe palette of ochres and
\nSpeckles and flush
\nLow growing vegetation
\nWild and discreet
\nMoorlands of majesty
\nRise from ancient peat<\/p>\n
Where Plover and Curlew
\nAnd we like to be
\nWith the sheep on the hillsides
\nThe intensity
\nOf what are wild spaces
\nSoft hues and quiet
\nWeathered and faded
\naway in the light
\nColours of topaz and of old gold
\nThey shine
\nOnto willow green herbage
\nThat grows in a line
\nGrasses and mosses
\nLeafy and clear
\nThe moorlands of Yorkshire
\nBring most of us cheer<\/p>\n
Ericaceous Callana Vulgaris
\nIt\u2019s pink and mauve bells
\nQuietly peal
\nIt\u2019s whether the Heather
\nIs healthy and tasty
\nWhen
\nThere or not red grouse enjoy each meal
\nThere is something that is fulfilling
\nYou can\u2019t put your beak on it, but we
\nLove it to bits it\u2019s so tender
\nAll the fresh leaves can\u2019t you see
\nThe buzz of the bee and the lacewing
\nTo pollinate is the desire
\nTo scoop up and taste the rich nectar

\nAnd kill many birds
\nWith beaters a beating all over the place
\nand shooters a shooting
\nAnd victims a falling
\nOut of the sky
\nAt a very fast pace<\/p>\n
Down below we have shooters
\nBankers and globalists
\nOn massive salaries
\nTaking it in
\nTaking advantage
\nOf this wondrous moorland
\nAnd what they do
\nThey don\u2019t see it as sin<\/p>\n
It\u2019s sport it\u2019s where kings and nobleman
\nCome to
\nDrink vintage wine and smoke Cubans,and they
\nTake out of the sky with their shot guns
\nA\u2019 blazing
\nBird after bird whole flocks will pay
\nLead flying everywhere yes it\u2019s toxicity
\nThese butt heads haven\u2019t a care in the world
\nWe are now nothing for these bods to eat us
\nSadly we lose it and then we are hurled
\nDown in a spiral of death and destruction
\nBleeding inside and wondering why
\nHumans do pointless things just for the fun of it
\nWhere Possibly over a thousand will die<\/p>\n
That is our lot really destiny suffers
\nThe whirl of our wings sends us high in the sky
\nTheir discrimination is no celebration
\nSo many downed birds take a while to die
\nWith lead in their bodies
\nOthers will suffer
\nThat is the problem of using lead shot
\nWith evidence growing more and more dying
\nNot just us grouse but
\nother wild ones
\nLike raptors and owls
\nAnd rabbits and others
\nThese shooters ought to
\nNot have their guns<\/p>\n
At present a petition
\nTo stop all this killing
\nOf wildbirds and raptors of eagles and more
\nHen harriers suffering game keepers perils
\nMany are acting now outside the law
\n100,000 need to sign up to it
\nNUmbers are growing fast maybe today
\nThere will be enough
\nFor a commons debate
