The more I think and the more I read
\nThe gullibility
\nof the people
\nThe superstition
\nand the true naivete
\nThe witches some were very old
\nLiving in the forest, they
\nClearly had their unique selling points
\nBut had to pay<\/p>\n
For the ignorance aroundabout
\nFor the constant tales of woe
\nOf illness in the family
\nOf the animals we know
\nCattle did get sick sometimes
\nAnd blame was easily
\nPointed at the so called witches
\nThats what it feels to me<\/p>\n
Foraging on wild flowers and plants
\nAnd funghi from the tree
\nA belief system that went back years
\nFar back into history
\nA lot of simple folk about
\nEasily taken in
\nPHilistines in many way
\nWho viewed everything as sin<\/p>\n
Women with innate knowledge
\nStudents of the crafte
\nUp against so many with
\nAn artlessness each draught
\nPerhaps a herbal elixir
\nDerived from nature they
\nWho may have used it sometimes
\nAs a cure all anyway<\/p>\n
Demdike and her family
\nThe PENDLE Witches they
\nEasy targets for the fools
\nThat ruled the earth that day
\nEveryone considered a heathen
\nA being of the myth
\nA student of the forest
\nAs would their kin and kith<\/p>\n
Their secrecy apparent
\nEvery excuse would do
\nThey were the reason for everything
\nThat went wrong
\nIt was true
\nIn point of fact
\nTheir positive reminders of the past
\nThe primatives were the ruling class
\nAnd their die alas was cast<\/p>\n
And so they found their maker
\nSooner than maybe
\nThey would have have found him
\nPrejudice, of the disbelieving cree
\nEverywhere you find them
\nAround the scaffold bare
\nWaiting for the cherished
