{"id":41670,"date":"2019-06-28T10:38:03","date_gmt":"2019-06-28T10:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=41670"},"modified":"2019-06-28T10:38:03","modified_gmt":"2019-06-28T10:38:03","slug":"imber-some-thoughts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2019\/06\/imber-some-thoughts\/","title":{"rendered":"Imber  some thoughts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An ancient village on Salisbury Plain<br \/>\nA quiet little place<br \/>\nWhere the saddest refrain<br \/>\nCame from one Albert Nash<br \/>\nA Blacksmith who worked<br \/>\nWith clinker and ash<\/p>\n<p>With honourable clients<br \/>\nWanting his wares<br \/>\nHis forty year stint<br \/>\nWell nothing compares<br \/>\nTo the day the MOd<br \/>\nCame to his place<br \/>\nTold him to leave<br \/>\nAnd So they did chase<\/p>\n<p>Him off of his property<br \/>\nIt was like that<br \/>\nGet his coat and his hat<br \/>\nAnd just go<br \/>\nHe was at<br \/>\nHis lowest point ever<br \/>\nAnd soonest we hear<br \/>\nHis heart broke<br \/>\nAnd he died<br \/>\nCheerless poor dear<\/p>\n<p>The invasion of Europe<br \/>\nWas imminent and they<br \/>\nWanted somewhere<br \/>\nTo put the US troops<br \/>\nThe day<br \/>\nCame it was Imber<br \/>\nAll the people were told<br \/>\nTo get out to go<br \/>\nAnd Many were old<\/p>\n<p>They didnt get paid<br \/>\nAll their lifes work<br \/>\nThey lost<br \/>\nIt was their contribution<br \/>\nTo the war effort<br \/>\nTossed<br \/>\nIn the mix so to say<br \/>\nThese poor folk<br \/>\nHad to go<br \/>\nFrom the records 150<br \/>\nYou know<\/p>\n<p>After the war the MOD<br \/>\nDecided to keep Imber<br \/>\nEntirely Folk free<br \/>\nThey never came back<br \/>\nThey lost everything<br \/>\nThat was England for you<br \/>\nJust what they could bring<\/p>\n<p>A church and a chapel<br \/>\nAn Inn and a school<br \/>\nAnd cottages actually<br \/>\nLoved by them all<br \/>\nThe army demolished<br \/>\nMost of them they<br \/>\nHad the upper hand<br \/>\nat the end of the day<\/p>\n<p>Bell Inn, Imber Court two buildings<br \/>\nI hear<br \/>\nStill stand alone with the church<br \/>\nBut its clear<br \/>\nThey are in disrepair<br \/>\nAnd in so many ways<br \/>\nWarring had torn out the heart<br \/>\nAnd the days<\/p>\n<p>Left are just memories<br \/>\nAnd history<br \/>\nThe ghosts of the lost souls<br \/>\nThose who might still be<br \/>\nWandering aimlessly<br \/>\nStill in their spaces<br \/>\nThe injustice and artfulness<br \/>\nStill on their faces<br \/>\nWhere were the morals<br \/>\nPoor Albert Nash<br \/>\nA lifetime at the anvil<br \/>\nAnd treated like trash<\/p>\n<p>Surely a village close<br \/>\nLinked with those<br \/>\nTo the henge up the road<br \/>\nAnd the spirits that chose<br \/>\nTo walk back in history<br \/>\nBack to the times<br \/>\nWhen the Romans were present<br \/>\nAnd bards using rhymes<\/p>\n<p>To record all the mysteries<br \/>\nPenned them so we<br \/>\nThe so called new folk<br \/>\nAnd, the MOD<br \/>\nWith its secret ops<br \/>\nWith needs after all<br \/>\nThe villagers gone<br \/>\nAlong with the school<\/p>\n<p>Basically wiped off the face<br \/>\nOf the plain<br \/>\nIn the Domesday Book<br \/>\nBut wont surface again<br \/>\nIts been bombed at and shot at<br \/>\nAnd munitions no doubt<br \/>\nAre bound to be<br \/>\nLying just lying about.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An ancient village on Salisbury Plain A quiet little place Where the saddest refrain Came from one Albert Nash A Blacksmith who worked With clinker and ash With honourable clients Wanting his wares His forty year stint Well nothing compares &hellip;
