Lovers of light
\nWith a presence so true
\nLike a beautiful swarm
\nLike a great sea of blue
\nBorn out of ancientness
\nThe forest floor
\nLights up with colour
\nMore so than before<\/p>\n
Lovers of lime rich soils
\nFlowering April through May
\nUndisturbed eco systems
\nPerennials they play
\nInto the orchestral music
\nAnd we
\nAs Linnaeus observed
\nIn 1753<\/p>\n
For me an old poet
\nWith the eyes of a child
\nSo engaged by the ocean
\nOf blue lapping wild
\nKeats endymion became inspiration
\nAnd in ashridge forest
\nI hear the oration<\/p>\n
The Greatest prose
\nOver a chalk soil
\nThe great understory
\nThe sanctum so royal
\nA fine sprawl of colour
\nTo intensify
\nThe motionless vista
\nExciting my eye<\/p>\n
Undisturbed and sequestered
\nA millpond to woo
\nQuiescent and tranquil
\nAnd purplish blue
\nTransfixed by the beauty
\nStopped in my tracks
\nSharing affinity
\nThats all else lacks<\/p>\n
Richer in pollen so loved by the bee
\nWho attends to the nectar
\nThat sweetness so key
\nIn our true pollination
\nThe bumbling souls
\nWho love our sweet perfume
\nIts one of their goals<\/p>\n
In life exaltation
\nThey dive, they ascend
\nFill up their baskets
\nFarewell to their friend
\nMake off with their bounty
\nThat tangible treat
\nThat taste of correctness
\nSo very complete<\/p>\n
Abundant
\nin hedgerows
\nAnd coastal plains
\nBefore trees are fully leafed
\nThey go to great pains
\nTo draw down the light force
\nAs much as they can
\nFor that is their true need
\nTheir general plan<\/p>\n
The quiet miccorrhizal
\narbuscular they
\nAre phantoms in many ways
\nPlanning their way
\nforward
\nObserving the temperature,
\nthe water
\nSo many gaze out ready, to lure
\nEuromyces muscari
\nAttracting the pure<\/p>\n
The sugary sweetness
\nThe olfaction so blue
\nIt just wants to smother
\nAn ambrosial view
\nWinding through the shadows
\nThe hush and the still
\nThe cyanic laughter
\nA sapphire or two<\/p>\n
The trees feel beholden
\nThat witness the scene
\nFrom the great auditorium
\nWhere they have been
\nlooking up as the pealing
\nBegins now in haste
\nAttracting attention
\nWith their bodying grace<\/p>\n
