North of the Niger River
\nAn ancient city stands
\nThe capital of Mali
\nTimbuktu whose lands
\nAre on the Sahara fringes
\nWhere barren wilderness
\nThe land of the Tuoreg
\nWhere the heat can stress
\nA land ofcourse where camels ply
\nThey close in and they touch the sky
\nCreation thought their placement through
\nFlesh and blood and endurance too
\nEssentially many extremes
\nWho can hear their inner screams
\nThose huge great teeth
\nAnd sandpaper tongue
\nWhere meagreness from them is rung<\/p>\n
Their disposition and attitude
\nSets their course
\nAnd they exude
\nA willingness to soldier on
\nUntil the last man standings gone
\nTheir perspective is to maintain
\nAbsoluteness and much strain
\nMutually they battle through
\nWhatever hardship there to do
\nWandering gypsies tribal souls
\nWarriors their differing roles
\nTheir mindset is their antidote
\nWhich is infact a thing of note
\nA gasping chortle an unfailing cry
\nA differentiated high
\nA Barren desert it\u2019s their thing
\nPhantoms that the dust storms bring
\nOn their struggle availeth one
\nFor they are lovers of the sun
\nThey harmonise and assimilate
\nAnd really that\u2019s what makes them great<\/p>\n
Desert adapted elephants they
\nAre secretive in every way
\nCreating mud clad camouflage
\nA kind of great moving mirage
\nOf bodies trundling through the sand
\nTheir destiny is well in hand
\nTheir memories are long they know
\nWhere the sparkling waters flow
\nA hundred miles well maybe so
\nAn antidote that\u2019s going to show
\nThe whole assemblage where is best
\nAnd all will then rise to the test
\nPachyderms resiliently
\nMake it known incessantly
\n50 gallons every day
\nEach elephant needs and it does pay
\nTo record the places in the mind
\nWhere there is water you can find
\nNo internet no maps to use
\nNo muddled heads no fake news
\nTo have that feeling and consistency
\nThat honest originality
\nIt\u2019s life or death
\nIt\u2019s supremacy
\nIt\u2019s perfect seniority
\nThe pole position the upper hand
\nThe bond that helps to understand<\/p>\n
Habitat a dwindling mass
\nMultitudes join the morass
\nOf inhabitants that want to share
\nThe land beyond the land to where
\nThere is always water
\nFor it creates
\nLife in all its myriad states
\nHerds of elephants townships where
\nThe tuoreg live and are aware
\nTheir Market gardens flourish well
\nWalking side by side with them a spell
\nWhat we are seeing apparently
\nAre the nomads settling down to be
\nWhere the water is sparklingly clear
\nWhere great flocks of birds appear
\nA natural space of harmony
\nWhere hopefully everyone can be
\nElephants adaptablity
\nHas brought them through to what we see
\nThe cats the wolves the ostrich they
\nHave in their own time passed away
\nCan the tuoreg and the elephants live
\nSide by side and really give
\nEach other a defining space
\nTime will tell perhaps we face
\nA need to search the wild frontier
\nTo re -engage and not now fear
\nWildness to believe that we
\nCan concrete over all we see
\nThose wide horizons in our mind
\nThe hope that all the tribes can find
\nA union together where
\nAs avatars we all can share
\nIn what is the inveteracy
\nThe diehard grip of certainty
\nAn Internal moratorium
\nOf perpetuity
\nOf sticking it out to the bitter end
\nOf restructuring humanity<\/p>\n
Our cities if we thought a while
\nAre zoo\u2019s infact just off the dial
\nConcrete and glass and little green
\nWe have forsaken the wilder scene
\nFor the lack of trees
\nFor the great five g
\nFor the WiFi buzzing
\nWhere no bee
\nOr butterfly
\nCan compensate
\nThe digital fog
\nWhere no debate
\nIs even allowed here anymore
\nChem trails rock our world for sure
\nUnited States
\nNo sovereign left dictatorships
\nJust bereft
\nOf humility and empathy
\nAnd few around with memory
\nWith harmony with hope and care
\nJust states of insanity
