\nAn illogical display
\nWild animals in cages
\nWhy is this today
\nIn AFRIca in their home
\nA preposterous idea
\nTotally inappropriate
\nAnd very far from clear<\/p>\n
We feel the desperation
\nAnd resignation there
\nHope extinguished every day
\nDefeatists everywhere
\nInconsolable angels
\nDesolate and forlorn
\nIntimidated constantly
\nFor them there is no Dawn<\/p>\n
Fear and intimidation
\nMisgivings they have many
\nPrejudice is ingrained
\nReally is there any
\nOne who truly cares
\nFor them
\nWho is resolute and aware
\nWho shares there state of wonder
\nAnd wants someone to care<\/p>\n
Instead it\u2019s reputation
\nIs a place of I\u2019ll repute
\nIt\u2019s degrading and demeaning
\nCharacterless at root
\nIgnoble and unworthy
\nCalls itself a zoo
\nA zoological garden
\nA mortifying brew<\/p>\n
Inglorious perceptions
\nIt\u2019s reputation low
\nCruelty is evident
\nEverywhere you go
\nThe animals are suffering
\nMaligned and left to be
\nRidden roughshod over
\nDisparaged constantly<\/p>\n
Africa is smarting
\nIt\u2019s lineage we feel
\nWhere is it\u2019s true nobility
\nTo actually be real
\nNot arrogant and hubristic
\nAnd condescending all the time
\nThe animals are suffering
\nMentally they climb<\/p>\n
Out of themselves completely
\nThe torture is immense
\nTaken from the wilds they were
\nHow can this make sense
\nHumiliated everyday
\nWith insult and affront
\nHostility and antagonism
\nThus is no mean stunt<\/p>\n
The animals are painfully
\nGetting through each day
\nZoo\u2019s are really pushing it
\nWhat is the great display
\nOf inimicality and antipathy
\nOf Ill feeling and grief
\nTension and true bitterness
\nMisanthropy the chief<\/p>\n
Enemy between the gates
\nIt\u2019s there for all to feel
\nAngels made to feel like slaves
\nWith daggers drawn for real
\nIncompatible completely
\nAn aloofness you can cut
\nOstracism if you like
\nExisting in a rut<\/p>\n
Marooned in purdah
\nExcommunication
\nTreated like a leper
\nWhere is their salvation
\nInhospitable
\nUnforthcoming
\nUnfrequented
\nLeft remote
\nIsolated every day
\nAnd those who come
\nJust gloat<\/p>\n
We so need
\nA few loving words
\nThis place now needs to close
\nThe zoo is past it\u2019s sell by date
\nThe anger here it grows
\nThe sullenness is evident
\nEverywhere you go
\nThe bard has cried his heart out
