The open country now displaying
\nSunshine yellow everywhere
\nBrimstone sulphur Lemon honey
\nIt\u2019s bold sprays ofcourse we share
\nFertility is ripe with reason
\nEvery month of every year
\nLikes to grow alone And thorny
\nAn invasive legume that is clear<\/p>\n
Get down close and smell the nosegay
\nThose wafts of honey surely they
\nBloom all year and stays
\n in leaf
\nFixes nitrogen they say
\nBees are clearly overcome by
\nLoads of pollen and nectar too
\nReally does make excellent kindling
\nOily branches burn they do<\/p>\n
The bramble tree
\nIt can be lethal
\nWounding horses passing by
\nSheep enjoy its thorny pasture
\nAnd for forty years gorse seeds can lie
\nDormant waiting for the spark of life to be
\nExcited by<\/p>\n
Gorse ashes can make soap a plenty
\nAs fertilisers add a deal
\nCattle and horses Choose the fodder
\nApparently it does appeal
\nFurze flowers pickled a bit like capers
\nAnd a tea for the flowers can be
\nGood for children with the fever
\nOr those with jaundice apparently<\/p>\n
Furze blossoms soaked in vinegar
\nAre good to dye eggs yellow
\nGreat upon the bonfire at Beltane
\nAs we bellow
\nLouder than the aged bull
\nIn the pasture green
\nAn aggressive coloniser
