\nA prodigy on it I am sold<\/p>\n
Enigmatic a surprising tree
\nWho loves the fen lands
\nAnd there they be
\nFeet in the water
\nPeat saturated
\nPlenty of lime
\nIncorporated<\/p>\n
On the Norfolk Broads
\nAnd at Wicken Fen
\nIn Cambridge
\nWhere it all began
\nThat love affair
\nFree flowing too
\nFearnog the Alder\u2019s dreams
\nCome true<\/p>\n
The Celtic spirit
\nMarch is it\u2019s time
\nThe great provider
\nAnd it doth climb
\nCreating shade
\nFor fish below
\nAnd seeds for birds
\nAs well we know<\/p>\n
It\u2019s love affair
\nWith life untold
\nWith the river bank
\nIt helps to hold
\nUp its roots for good support
\nEngendering strength
\nThrough deepest thought<\/p>\n
Esoteric number eight
\nThe number of man
\nA human trait
\nAbundant for thousands
\nOf years before
\nThus legions of insects
\nInspect its core<\/p>\n
It\u2019s leaves it\u2019s twigs
\nIt\u2019s rightful wood
\nBeetles and flies
\nAnd moths all could
\nDamage it\u2019s being
\nBut in a way
\nIt so stands fast
\nAnd enjoys their sway<\/p>\n
All kinds of bird life
\nFlutter to
\nSiskin and warblers
\nMallards who
\nShare the seeds
\nAnd love the shade
\nAnd around it\u2019s feet
\nShrub layers laid<\/p>\n
Sallow perhaps the Guelder Rose
\nPrivet and Spindle
\nI do suppose
\nBlackcurrant and Berries
\nAnd agrimony
\nand sedge and nettles
\nAnd perhaps Comfrey<\/p>\n
Mycorrhizal association
\nWith several toadstools
\nAnd the notion
\nOf partnerships
\nWith bacteria they
\nTransfer nitrogen
\nEvery day<\/p>\n
From the air
\nThat is everywhere
\nRather than from the soil
\nItself
\nCarbohydrate the gift
\nIt gets
\nIt gives it receives
\nAnd ofcourse it sets<\/p>\n
A precedent really
\nIt all it does
\nIt\u2019s giving its love
\nAnd it\u2019s care
\nA buzz
\nOf life of wonderment
\nAt its root
\nAttracting the Otters
\nWho remain astute<\/p>\n
The goddess tree
\nThe fairy realms
\nImmersed in water
\nIt overwhelms
\nIt hardens as stone
\nIt\u2019s toughness reigns
\nPsychic battles
\nBlood red stains<\/p>\n
Oestra\u2019s aura
\nGreen Shoots give flight
\nSaps a rising
\nLeaves fluttering
\nIn the morning light
\nA love affair
\nWith bird and beast
\nWith bank and insects
\nToo not least<\/p>\n
and despite the insect
\nArmy throng
\nWho congregate
\nAnd some belong
\nThe Alder Moth
\nThe Alder fly
\nHave little connection
\nI wonder why<\/p>\n
They come to enjoy
\nThe Alder\u2019s place
\nThey give and receive
\nAnd are gone without trace<\/p>\n
Likewise the nightingale
\nSingeth her song
\nThe warblers warble
\nThe woodcocks belong
\nThey do no damage
\nNone at all
\nIn that regard
\nIt all stays cool<\/p>\n
As for man
\nThe wood
\nMay go to ply
\nSoles of clogs
\nBy and by
\nGreen Alder branches
\nMake good whistles
\nThe witches conjured
\nDestructive sound
\nThus deterring
\nThe invaders
\nAny of those around<\/p>\n
March the 18th
\nA time when Alders
\nFirst blossom cometh
\nAnd a drying time
\nFor the Spring sun
\nFrom the heavens
\nDries the flood
\nAs it has always done<\/p>\n
A tree of fire
\nOf resurrection
\nIt\u2019s buds in spiral form
\nCreate
\nLife itself
\nThe great love story
