In early Spring we see the flowers
\nStill leafless
\nTufts and catkins they
\nFemale and male
\nThe leaves serrated
\nAnd heavily veined
\nclear green
\nTo grey
\nAnd yellow
\nHanging on for dear life

\nThe stems are very pliable
\nAnd make good ties so they say<\/p>\n
A good nut year
\nIs a good wheat year
\nA hazel rod can see
\nMarvellous for divining
\nWhere hidden treasures be
\nMay also find the subterranean streams
\nIt really can
\nIf Gripped lightly in the hand
