{"id":40289,"date":"2019-02-24T19:13:41","date_gmt":"2019-02-24T19:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=40289"},"modified":"2019-02-24T19:38:36","modified_gmt":"2019-02-24T19:38:36","slug":"woodland-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2019\/02\/woodland-friends\/","title":{"rendered":"Woodland friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Little souls<br \/>\nof the woodland ways<br \/>\nEntities that always raise<br \/>\nA stir within the forests dark<br \/>\nSmall ofcourse<br \/>\nbut who leave their mark<br \/>\nConfrontations ofcourse<br \/>\nthey be<br \/>\nAnd originality<br \/>\nDeers may clip the seedlings trying<br \/>\nRabbits squirrels voles and mice<br \/>\nWe look for balance and it is there<br \/>\nReciprocity in a trice<\/p>\n<p>The edible dormouse<br \/>\nComes and goes<br \/>\nWho has the tiniest<br \/>\nlittle toes<br \/>\nScurries  here and scurries there<br \/>\nInfact they scurry everywhere<\/p>\n<p>The shrew the vole the mouse<br \/>\nAll be<br \/>\nWhispering quietly<br \/>\nWild and free<br \/>\nNocturnal knights who sweep the ground<br \/>\nhardly making any sound<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes the vole its redness shows<br \/>\nIt really has a blunter nose<br \/>\nThan any mouse that one might see<br \/>\nA Vole  therefore<br \/>\nEssentially<br \/>\nAll on the lookout for tasty fayre<br \/>\nInsect larvae<br \/>\nThat they can share<br \/>\nIt also climbs it likes acorns too<br \/>\nAnd berries and nuts<br \/>\nAnd seeds  its view<br \/>\nIs<br \/>\nStay away from the humans who<br \/>\nCause them danger which is true<\/p>\n<p>A handicap being so small<br \/>\nBut able to not be seen at all<br \/>\nAmong dead leaves and strips of bark<br \/>\nIt finds good cover where it can park<br \/>\nThe hedgehog ambles from side to side<br \/>\nThey love slugs that easily slide<br \/>\nDown their dry throats so they be<br \/>\nDoing what comes naturally<\/p>\n<p>Squirrels darting here they be<br \/>\nTwitching almost constantly<br \/>\nStop and start and leap and throw<br \/>\nThemselves around<br \/>\nAs well we know<br \/>\nThey ripple along the ground<br \/>\nAnd are<br \/>\nGood at nibbling from afar<br \/>\nBuds and bark and fungi too<br \/>\nadaptable in what they do<\/p>\n<p>Not many reds about these days<br \/>\nThe American grey I suppose he pays<br \/>\nMore attention to reds than most<br \/>\nAnd if  they are around<br \/>\nTend to be toast<\/p>\n<p>Woodlands are being torn apart<br \/>\nHunting and fracking<br \/>\nAnd housing start<br \/>\nTo make inroads into spaces where<br \/>\nThe wild souls live<br \/>\nAre we aware\uff1f<\/p>\n<p>Many are<br \/>\nBut developers they<br \/>\nAnd planners<br \/>\nSee a lucrative way<br \/>\nOf utilising the odd green space<br \/>\nTurning it over to the human race<\/p>\n<p>The race is on<br \/>\nAs more are gone<br \/>\nThe little souls<br \/>\nSo Wild they be<br \/>\nUnseen innocence<br \/>\nNot in the news<br \/>\nBut Living their lives<br \/>\nAnd who just refuse<\/p>\n<p>To lay down and die<br \/>\nAs the march is on<br \/>\nAs  fields are flattened<br \/>\nAnd more trees are gone<br \/>\n5 g and wifi and micro waves<br \/>\nThe tetra too<br \/>\nSo many graves<\/p>\n<p>The fallen unseen<br \/>\nThey remain<br \/>\nLying in the<br \/>\nComing rain<\/p>\n<p>wildness sadly<br \/>\nDwindling fast<br \/>\nA downward trend<br \/>\nMore shadows cast<br \/>\nSludge and slag and dross<br \/>\nDecay<br \/>\nReally bad<br \/>\nFor the feng shui<\/p>\n<p>And a housing estate<br \/>\nGoes up and we<br \/>\nNever heard<br \/>\nThe wild ones plea<\/p>\n<p>No one hears them<br \/>\nnot any more<\/p>\n<p>Lets hope they ran away<br \/>\nFor sure<\/p>\n<p>Where to<br \/>\nWho knows<br \/>\nWho really cares<br \/>\nOf woodland creatures<br \/>\nAnd their affairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Little souls of the woodland ways Entities that always raise A stir within the forests dark Small ofcourse but who leave their mark Confrontations ofcourse they be And originality Deers may clip the seedlings trying Rabbits squirrels voles and mice &hellip;
