Little souls
\nof the woodland ways
\nEntities that always raise
\nA stir within the forests dark
\nSmall ofcourse
\nbut who leave their mark
\nConfrontations ofcourse
\nthey be
\nAnd originality
\nDeers may clip the seedlings trying
\nRabbits squirrels voles and mice
\nWe look for balance and it is there
\nReciprocity in a trice<\/p>\n
The edible dormouse
\nComes and goes
\nWho has the tiniest
\nlittle toes
\nScurries here and scurries there
\nInfact they scurry everywhere<\/p>\n
The shrew the vole the mouse
\nAll be
\nWhispering quietly
\nWild and free
\nNocturnal knights who sweep the ground
\nhardly making any sound<\/p>\n
Sometimes the vole its redness shows
\nIt really has a blunter nose
\nThan any mouse that one might see
\nA Vole therefore
\nEssentially
\nAll on the lookout for tasty fayre
\nInsect larvae
\nThat they can share
\nIt also climbs it likes acorns too
\nAnd berries and nuts
\nAnd seeds its view
\nIs
\nStay away from the humans who
\nCause them danger which is true<\/p>\n
A handicap being so small
\nBut able to not be seen at all
\nAmong dead leaves and strips of bark
\nIt finds good cover where it can park
\nThe hedgehog ambles from side to side
\nThey love slugs that easily slide
\nDown their dry throats so they be
\nDoing what comes naturally<\/p>\n
Squirrels darting here they be
\nTwitching almost constantly
\nStop and start and leap and throw
\nThemselves around
\nAs well we know
\nThey ripple along the ground
\nAnd are
\nGood at nibbling from afar
\nBuds and bark and fungi too
\nadaptable in what they do<\/p>\n
Not many reds about these days
\nThe American grey I suppose he pays
\nMore attention to reds than most
\nAnd if they are around
\nTend to be toast<\/p>\n
Woodlands are being torn apart
\nHunting and fracking
\nAnd housing start
\nTo make inroads into spaces where
\nThe wild souls live
\nAre we aware\uff1f<\/p>\n
Many are
\nBut developers they
\nAnd planners
\nSee a lucrative way
\nOf utilising the odd green space
\nTurning it over to the human race<\/p>\n
The race is on
\nAs more are gone
\nThe little souls
\nSo Wild they be
\nUnseen innocence
\nNot in the news
\nBut Living their lives
\nAnd who just refuse<\/p>\n
To lay down and die
\nAs the march is on
\nAs fields are flattened
\nAnd more trees are gone
\n5 g and wifi and micro waves
\nThe tetra too
\nSo many graves<\/p>\n
The fallen unseen
\nThey remain
\nLying in the
\nComing rain<\/p>\n
wildness sadly
\nDwindling fast
\nA downward trend
\nMore shadows cast
\nSludge and slag and dross
\nDecay
\nReally bad
\nFor the feng shui<\/p>\n
And a housing estate
\nGoes up and we
\nNever heard
\nThe wild ones plea<\/p>\n
No one hears them
\nnot any more<\/p>\n
Lets hope they ran away
\nFor sure<\/p>\n
Where to
\nWho knows
\nWho really cares
\nOf woodland creatures
