A battle ground
\nAwaits the eyes
\nOf those who would be wild
\nAshridge in the present
\nWitnessing this child
\nAbsent for a lifetime
\nWhilst being hurled in flight
\nThe baying hounds
\nIn essence
\nClearly now in sight<\/p>\n
A new year in the offing
\nAnd already in my space
\nThe red coated swines
\nWith their violent spines
\nThe so called human race
\nAll at my back
\nThe boundless hordes
\nClattering behind
\nTearing up the dormant leaves
\nPerchance perhaps to find<\/p>\n
A tired exhausted reynard
\nHeading for his earth
\nThe setting a great wintry wood
\nWhere our mother once gave birth
\nTo me and my young sister
\nOur placement close to where
\nThe chase now felt more sinister
\nRaging with despair<\/p>\n
Trees hung every which way
\nTorn down by the storm
\nIts hand had clearly battered
\nAnd shattered every form
\nAll ghosts all phantoms
\nSilently
\nLay across the way
\nBroken gnarled and sobbing
\nIn an injurious display<\/p>\n
Their hounds were at my being
\nTheir teeth a gnashing they
\nWere almost in my aura
\nOn this New Years Day
\nAll my strength I pitted
\nEvery sinew taut
\nAnd found a hole
\nTo vent my soul
\nAnd a few more hours had bought.<\/p>\n
A cacophony of hunters
\nA melee of distress
\nA pounding like great drums of war
\nAdded to the duress
\nI wiggled through a tunnel
\nA system from before
\nAnd found another opening
\nAnd back into the raw<\/p>\n
The hounds were all a panic
\nBut I was on my way
\nOver the bush
\nAnd through the holly copse
\nAnother day
\nPromised, that was very close
\nBut fortunately for me
\nI had found an escape route
\nAnd once again was free<\/p>\n
