Flags and masks and energy
\nWere the order of the day
\n40 or so of us visited
\nAshridge an array
\nOf protectors from a
\nlot of counties
\nMet up there to say
\nThat the National Trust
\nHad lost it
\nReally lost its way
\nThat was how we saw it
\nFor Hunting to begin
\nTrailing just a made up word
\nFor us all wearing thin
\nWhen the management of the countryside
\nLets Hunters come and try
\nTo Set their sights on The brown hare
\nWe need to ask them why<\/p>\n
We stood together making
\nOur point with passers by
\nSome of us with fox masks
\nAnd Hare’s masks which is why
\nThe police were called and
\nContinually suggested we should go
\naway to the much more muddy paths
\nAnd not so in the flow
\nWe refused Some of us chanting
\nWe kept our message clear
\nWe were not causing trouble
\nThere was no cause to fear
\nWe talked about the trailing
\nAnd about the sabs and we
\nWere giving out our leaflets
\nAnd we all remained carefree<\/p>\n
Visitors come to Ashridge
\nA lot to see the Deer
\nNot realising possibly
\nThey are being shot
\nIts clear
\n600 or so are being stalked
\nAnd shot mostly at night
\nAnd clearly this upsets them
\nAnd so they stay out of sight<\/p>\n
It would make animals nervous
\nThey are shooting The Muntjacs too
\nThey reckon they eat the saplings
\nAnd the leaves which isnt new
\nOfcourse they eat we all eat
\nBut the flesh is what they sell
\nUnder the guise of Deer Management
\nA phrase that I know well
\nIn the shop they are selling
\nDead deer flesh and we
\nCan see them roaming quietly
\nAnd then take some home for tea
\nThey begin the kill in November
\nSome 600 will die
\n600 deer a season
\nso the retail sales are high<\/p>\n
And now we hear they are after
\nLicensing hunters to
\nHunt the glorious brown Hare
\nAnd so we took the view
\nThe National Trust Could not be trusted
\nFor it appeared to be
\nThat they were after drawing
\nNegativity
\nTo these glorious woodlands
\nAncient overiding
\nPeering into the many tres
\nFew could see them hiding
\nIssuing them with licenses
\nTo come a hunt the trail
\nFrightening the wild folk
\nA really sorry tale<\/p>\n
Some saw us as a nuisance
\nBut really what we do
\nIs try to wake the people up
\nAnd let them know the true
\nNature of the National Trust
\nA body sadly we
\nFeel are towing the wrong line now
\nAnd it cannot be
\nThe sky was blue and heavenly
\nTwo gliders soared on high
\nThe trees were standing motionless
\nGiving us all a high
\nPalpable and beautiful
\nIn a natural way
\nThe solitude of being
\nIntrinsic by display<\/p>\n
For me it makes no sense at all
\nTo introduce those who
\nWould cause stress to the surroundings
\nJust a groundless view
\nUnrelated to the forest
\nAlien in fact
\nSome sort of diversion
\nThat truly will detract
\nFrom the authenticity
\nThe genuineness all see
\nThe ever changing seasons
\nThe real contrariety
\nThe disparate the mismatched
\nThe hunters on the trail
\nCausing a confustion
\nThat for me is beyond the pale<\/p>\n
Over the Christmas period
\nNo deers will be killed from 20\/12 until 4\/1
