\nThe rugged the mountains
\nInhospitable places
\nIn Chitral where they
\nThe Markhor live out their lives
\nForaging daily
\nOn tussock grass and leaves
\nMaking their way<\/p>\n
Up high in the Summer
\nAnd back down in the Winter
\nWhere the snow and the ice
\nAccumulates and
\nThe winds how they threaten
\nTheir crepuscular habits
\nGive them the freedom
\nTo be on the land<\/p>\n
As males they are solitary beings
\nThe females
\nprefer to be in herds
\nEndangered they be
\nWide expanses of blue
\nAnd beautiful mountains
\nThe HIndu Kush ranges
\nThat many can see<\/p>\n
We hear though they are gifted
\nTo ramble and live out
\nTheir lives on these ridges
\nThat certainly they
\nAre now being hunted
\nImporting the foreigners
\nThose wanting trophies
\nAnd are willing to pay<\/p>\n
The realization of taxing
\nThose hunters
\nComing from the US and the EU
\nWanting a head and a pelt
\nTo return with
\nPaying a fortune
\nIts what hunters do<\/p>\n
For me such an animal rare
\nAnd really beautiful
\nWhy are we abusing their creative gift
\nThe burning question
\nIts really a sickness
\nFrom May through to September
\nIf you get my drift<\/p>\n
They go for the males
\nWith the greatest trophies
\nAn all in package
\nTo tempt hunters to
\nExpect some good hunting
\nBut its all loose thinking
\nWhy kill the golden goose
\nWhen theres so few<\/p>\n
Its all tunnel vision
\nCliquishness bias
\nA jaundiced eye
\nIts really no way
\nTo drum up some money
\nTo support local people
\nAnd pay certain taxes
\nMore of us must say<\/p>\n
This animal represents
\nPakistan truly
\nAnd by offering up
\nSuch animals we
\nDegrade ourselves
\nSacrificing the living
\nAnd importing abuse
\nWhich does upset me<\/p>\n
Creation bedecked them
\nIn wonderful horns
\nAnd the evil of man
\nclearly makes a play
\nTo exploit what was gifted
\nThe truly iconic
\ngive hunters permission
