Out and about this morning
\nI saw
\nwhite frosted webs that all spiders adore
\nthe cleansing frost
\nthat caresses their form
\ndepicting and framing
\nthe art, they perform
\nthe trees had been lost in the
\ncurtain of night
\nthey edged into day and now into the light
\nsilhouetted by street lamps
\ngolden they drew
\nthis picture this morning
\nin frost frozen dew<\/p>\n
wizards had no doubt been up early too
\nfor mushrooms and toadstools
\nhad fought with the dew
\nand the litter of leaves
\nencrusted by frost
\nand had pushed their heads through
\nand old Jack Frost had lost
\nsome, as white as the snow, some as pink
\nas the sky, some as red as the sun
\nlike that flag waving high
\non a pole of St George once
\nin Genoese seas
\nsafeguarding our navy
\nfrom our enemies
\nAshridge the forest where
\nDeers and Hares leap
\nwhere the Moon Goddess dances
\nand tiny toads creep
\nthere have never been snakes
\nof the poisonous kind
\nonly sweet tender souls
\nthe best you can find
\nthere’s a halo of salmon
\nnow up in the sky
\ndrenched in grey then in blue
\nlike a great frosted pie
\nstiffened by frost the plants
\nof the field
\nstand motionless really
\nfor they never yield
\nto Jack and his band of
\nfrost angels who paint
\ntheir freezing cold gloss
\nNo Jack is no saint
\nhe freezes the pipes
\nhe cracks earthenware
\nbut kills off the bugs
\nall trying to share
\ntheir worst kind of ailment
\nthey’re stopped in their tracks
\nmost finish up dead
\nflat out on their backs
\nthe goddess is up at the crack
\nof most Dawns
\nshe walks with the stags
\nand she plays with the fawns
\nshe glides through the forest
\nwhere no one can hear
\ncollecting her berries
\nand mushrooms, its clear
\nher potions are fresh
\nand her spells are the same
\nearth magic her calling
\nthough maketh no claim
\nI have every faith in all that she does
\nfor she works with the stars
\nclose to her, there’s a buzz
\nof sound, and of light and the hum of the bee
\nof the nectar still sweet
\nfrom the old almond tree
\nMy Goddess creates so much
\nbeauty and grace
\nand its there always there
