{"id":38837,"date":"2018-09-23T20:23:08","date_gmt":"2018-09-23T20:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=38837"},"modified":"2018-09-24T19:03:38","modified_gmt":"2018-09-24T19:03:38","slug":"rollrights-239","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2018\/09\/rollrights-239\/","title":{"rendered":"Rollrights 23\/9   Autumn Equinox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They  forecast  high winds and some rain<br \/>\nA down pour on the way<br \/>\nBut when we got to the rollright stones<br \/>\nIts blue skies and a play<br \/>\nOn words for me<br \/>\nfor the sun was out<br \/>\nShining pretty bright<br \/>\nWe formed our circle held hands a while<br \/>\nAnd opened the quarters<br \/>\nand the light<br \/>\nFadeth a bit and the wind got up<br \/>\nAnd the trees around us shook<br \/>\nTheir crowns were really feeling it<br \/>\nWho is for  another look<br \/>\nThen we enjoyed  a playlet<br \/>\nOf the three men from the west<br \/>\nThey were after John Barleycorn<br \/>\nThey buried him they did<br \/>\nPloughed him sowed him harrowed him<br \/>\nReally in a bid<\/p>\n<p>They let  him lie<br \/>\nBeneath the sod<br \/>\nAnd made a solemn vow<br \/>\nThat he could stay lost to the world<br \/>\nAnd they would show  us how<\/p>\n<p>So they went away just left him be<br \/>\nLet the rain pour down and he<br \/>\nSurprised us all when<br \/>\nHe just  leapt up<br \/>\nAs healthy as could be<\/p>\n<p>They got this bloke<br \/>\nWith scythes so sharp<br \/>\nTo cut him at the  knee<br \/>\nThey rolled him over<br \/>\nThey didnt care but to show him<br \/>\nCruelty<\/p>\n<p>Another man  with a sharp pitch fork<br \/>\nTo strike him in his  heart<br \/>\nAnd the other bound him head to tow<br \/>\nAnd slung him in their cart<br \/>\nThey took him around the field<br \/>\nAll day<br \/>\nTill he came up to the barn<br \/>\nAnd each then made an oath And said<br \/>\nPoor John barleycorn<\/p>\n<p>They hIred a man with crab-tree sticks<br \/>\nTo scratch his skin and bone<br \/>\nAnd then they asked tHe miller man to grind<br \/>\nHim on his stone<br \/>\nBut john was really up to it<br \/>\nWith some brandy in his glass<br \/>\nHe proved that he could take them on<br \/>\nA true man he first class<\/p>\n<p>And as  for the so called huntsman<br \/>\nWho could never catch his foe<br \/>\nAnd rarely could  they hear the horn<br \/>\nWhen ever it  did blow<br \/>\nAnd nobody is able to mend or else to be<br \/>\nWorth their salt one has to say<br \/>\nWithout  Barleycorn there as key<\/p>\n<p>The play was acted admirably<br \/>\nWith aggression knots and All<br \/>\nOnto the mead and the apricots<br \/>\nAnd the cakes and the poets call<br \/>\nAn ode about the autumn<br \/>\nAbout the natural wheel<br \/>\nWhich is forever turning<br \/>\nAnd that no one can conceal<\/p>\n<p>Then we  had the talking stick<br \/>\nAnd we lost the sky of blue<br \/>\nIt disappeared in a wodge of cloud<br \/>\nAnd some rain and hail came too<br \/>\nAround the circle with snake stick<br \/>\nTill everyone had said<br \/>\nTheir piece their poems<br \/>\nWhatever<br \/>\nAnd by that time were led<\/p>\n<p>Out of the grey and the wodge of cloud<br \/>\nBack to a  sky of blue<br \/>\nBack to the wind a cutting wind<br \/>\nI was almost cut in two<br \/>\nOnto the closing of quarters<br \/>\nAnd the favoured ho ho ho<br \/>\nAnd despite the  chilly wind a blowing<br \/>\nCold enough for snow<\/p>\n<p>We sll just mingled calmly<br \/>\nTaking the light that became<br \/>\nBright it licked the colours of the leaves<br \/>\nSome were aflame<br \/>\nwith orange and with crimson<br \/>\nSulphur yes by name<br \/>\nCadmium and mustard<br \/>\nA cool kaleidescope<br \/>\nof colour<br \/>\nTo amaze the eyes<br \/>\nAnd bring us all some hope<br \/>\n.<br \/>\nThe moles had clearly not been put<br \/>\nOff<br \/>\nEnjoying their hills and dales<br \/>\nFreshly dug the colour was<br \/>\nInspired by wagging tails<br \/>\nAnd sharp claws no doubt<br \/>\nBlindly<br \/>\ntearing at the sod<br \/>\nIn darkness moles dont really care<br \/>\nAs They  are  closer to their god.<\/p>\n<p>The stones they looked resplendent<br \/>\nPicked out in the light<br \/>\nThe colours of the countryside<br \/>\nAltogether bright<br \/>\ndappling and stippling<br \/>\nFretted and patterened too<br \/>\nNot many people came along<br \/>\nBut those that did rang true<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They forecast high winds and some rain A down pour on the way But when we got to the rollright stones Its blue skies and a play On words for me for the sun was out Shining pretty bright We &hellip;
