So many nations have a blindspot
\nIts appears to me
\nGifted with creative forces
\nWhether on land or sea
\nAustralia has many
\nIconic creatures she
\nIs blaise about their existence
\nAnd their right to be<\/p>\n
Under Native Titles
\nIndigenous people can
\nHunt them for their personal use
\nOr non commercial communal needs
\nPer man
\nBut the manner of subjection
\nOf criminality
\nAnd what amounts to poor control
\nActually what we see<\/p>\n
Is these laws are being broken
\nWith poaching gangs in play
\nNot just from the indigenous
\nBut non indigenous, they
\nAre at it getting around these laws
\nAnd clearly it does pay
\nThey are in it for the money
\nHeartless ignorants who
\nLay their 3foot coir mesh nets
\nIn their feeding grounds
\nIts true<\/p>\n
There are some indigenous
\nAlso breaking the law
\nAnd with environmental by-catch
\nFor Dugongs its a war
\nIts really taking liberties
\nWith a created gift
\nDugongs dont live everywhere
\nIt should give us a lift
\nThat Australia was chosen
\nTo have this mammal here
\nAnd we should be protective
\nInstead we create fear<\/p>\n
We let the low life prosper
\nAlready creatures fight
\nThe elements the pollution
\nHow can this be right
\nAccidental entanglement
\nWe see this everywhere
\nIgnorant and negligent fishermen
\nWho just don’t bloody care<\/p>\n
Who just don’t think
\nAbout the world they live in anymore
\nHabitat loss its happening
\nBoat strikes many more
\nAs we get on the ocean
\nUncaring once again
\nOnly interested in ourselves
\nWe really are a pain<\/p>\n
Noise we create so much of it
\nAnd chemical abuse
\nWe are by our very selves
\nOften of no use
\nTo the animals of the wild tribes
\nSome see them as a way
\nOf making a fast dollar
\nAnd ofcourse they pay<\/p>\n
Often with their freedom
\nWith their life
\nSuch sorrow we
\nInflict upon their families
\nFor us it would be key
\nBut we are disingenuous about them
\nIts money all the way
\nMoney money money
\nAnd fcuk what others say<\/p>\n
The dugong eating seagrass roots
\nIs no enemy of man
\n8-12 foot long they be
\nSea cows truly can
\nBe very good for Australia
\nThey are wild
\nAnd were gifted by
\nThe great mother
\nIn her wisdom
\nDo we need to ask why<\/p>\n
We were trusted to be caring
\nTo be sharing of the wealth
\nAnd abundance all around us
\nAnd to go about in stealth
\nPoaching native specimens
\nFor profit far away
\nImagining we are respected
\nAt the butt end of decay<\/p>\n
We need to control our urges
\nIf indeed urges are what
\nGet us murdering wild life
\nReally we should be shot
\nIf we sit back and let it happen
\nLet the criminality
\nSlaughter all the wild life tribes
\nReally thats depravity<\/p>\n
We might be in the cities
\nIn our glass and concrete towers
\nEating out of freezers
\nAnd having high powered showers
\nBut we are party to such vile abuse
\nUnderneath our nose
\nIts happening to the creatures
\nAnd the problem now it grows<\/p>\n
Dugongs and turtles
\nAre being killed each day
\nDespite our rules and regulations
\nThey get around them okay
\nThe PNG are out there
\nIts happening no sweat
\nSome indigenous are overstepping their mark
\nThats a fair bet<\/p>\n
But the non indigenous blighters
\nWho slander the indigenous cause
\nWho go out dugong hunting
\nAnd really seldom pause
\nThey work under the radar
\nBelieving they can and will
\nAnd these are gifted wild souls
\nAnd their blood they spill<\/p>\n
I have heard in indigenous circles
\nThe flesh is eaten by
\nThe oil used as a cosmetic
\nBut we must not belie
\nThe honour and the true need
\nTo protect those of the wild
\nAs we protect our families
\nAnd a new born child<\/p>\n
We need to get our arses into gear
\nAnd on the case
\nWe need to protect the gifted ones
\nAs members of a race
\nOf human beings we need
\nTo care and respect them we
\nMust Not look at them as lucre
\nBut remember they are free<\/p>\n
Native Title is one thing
\nBut loopholes must not be
\nAllowed to ruin what was a right
\nReally there has to be
\nSome control the elders could
\nSet up some tagging scheme
\nTo act as a protection
\nAnd try to redeem<\/p>\n
The honour of the honest
\nThe emotion and the care
\nBring back sensitivity
\nBe mindful and aware
\nBlock out the obtuseness
\nThe callousness around
\nThe unimaginative criminals
\nThat seemingly now abound<\/p>\n
There is a joy in seeing
\nThe wild souls living free
\nIn their gardens of eden
\nUnderneath the sea
\nOr bounding through the wilderness
\nDoing their own thing
\nNot bleeding out on some
\nWild shore
\nFor the profit they might bring.<\/p>\n
