\nIs as deep as can be
\nMany tears have been shed
\nSo much sadness I see
\nHeart wrenching stories
\nPitiful tales
\nLives left in tatters
\nHow this all pales<\/p>\n
Into significance
\nIt is the start
\nOne elephant wandering
\nA broken heart
\nNear a plantation
\nWas confronted by
\nA shot gun
\nThat blasted
\nAnd blinded its eye<\/p>\n
A baby still nursing
\nWhat would it do
\nLost in the big world
\nWhere only a few
\nInjured souls ever
\nFind favour today
\nMost shot and killed
\nOr just made to pay<\/p>\n
Frightened and blinded
\nImagine the pain
\nShe sobbed for her mother
\nBut that was in vain
\nWandering angst ridden
\nThankfully she
\nWas found and was taken
\nTo a school
\nWhere she’d be<\/p>\n
Look after at least
\nBy the children and they
\nWould tell other people
\nAnd so a bright ray
\nOf light seem to follow her
\nAnd she soon found
\nSome rehabilitation
\nDown on the ground<\/p>\n
Close to the jungle
\nWhere kindness and care
\nWas given and she strived
\nTo be more aware
\nShe was kindly but timid
\nSo frightened you see
\nBut was soon introduced
\nTo a zoo where she’d be<\/p>\n
At least, looked after
\nI am not into zoo’s
\nBut here was a saviour
\nWhich for her was good news
\nOregon zoo her caretaker JB
\nAnd she was soon moved there
\nAnd bas been happy<\/p>\n
There were several babies
\nOrphans and she
\nCould use her maternal
\nInstincts to see
\nShe had only one eye
\nBut a heart it was strong
\nAnd Chendra had a purpose
\nAnd soon a real throng<\/p>\n
Of elephants with her
\nWitH their purgatory
\nShe remembered her own
\nAnd helped them to be
\nWith a great deal of space
\nAnd the patience to match
\nShe helped rebuild their lives
\nAnd the babies did latch<\/p>\n
Onto her really a surrogate she
\nLoved them as if they were hers
\nShe could see
\nShe could feel she could be someone
\nIn their dear lives
\nFrom her tragic start
\nNow she survives<\/p>\n
Very much with regard
\nIn a sanctuary where
\nThe intolerable victims of man
\nMade despair
\nCome and she helps
\nReconcile and we see
\nA contentment she smiles
\nIn her serenity<\/p>\n
A forest elephant
\nFrom Borneo
\nSome 2000 wild ele’s left
\nThere as we know
\nThe struggle is still
\nAgainst palm oil and they
\nLike the orangutans
\nstill face the dismay<\/p>\n
Their whole world torn down
\nSlashed and burned a great war
\nAll that they knew
\nLost for evermore
\nImagine that insanity
\nFoisted upon
\nThe wild souls created
\nBut Their whole world gone<\/p>\n
Every tree every shrub
\nEvery watering hole
\nAnd nobody there
\nTo ever console
\nThe hideousness
\nThe defacement and woe
\nAnd its all done for money
\nFor the banksters who blow<\/p>\n
Much of it sadly on evil and gain
\nSupporting the criminal
\nThe darkly insane
\nThe tastelessness everywhere
\nThe vulgarity
\nReplaces the good
\nThe depravity<\/p>\n
Excesses and waste
\nFor as far as we see
\nThe animals tribes
\nNow where can they be
\nThey were our teachers
\nThey were our friends
\nAnd in so many instances
\nAll of this ends<\/p>\n
With the utter contempt
\nFor respect and due care
\nFor loving each other
\nAnd being aware
\nAs our lungs are
\nBlackened by poison and strife
\nIts not just the elephants
\nThat now cling to life<\/p>\n
We all are now victims
\nThe indigenous too
\nBeing invaded by armies
\nIts true
\nMigrants are everywhere
\nIts just the start
\nOf feeling the fear
