A testament to the intolerant
\nThe remorseless throw aways
\nThe compassionless society
\nAnd the now thankless phase
\nThe unmindful and the spiteful
\nWhose culpability
\nIs out there in the ocean
\nAnd is brought right home to me<\/p>\n
The shoreline as a child I paddled
\nAnd now what do we see
\nA mass of undulation
\nSuch impropriety
\nWhat an impending danger
\nDetritis at the door
\nSuch truculence such inconsiderateness
\nThat no one’s seen before<\/p>\n
Incomprehensible and delusional
\nThe corporatocracy
\nThe vomit of the trillions
\nOil based infamy
\nThe filth within so many
\nIs manifest now here
\nWe caused this without thinking
\nBut our destiny is clear<\/p>\n
Looming on these salty waves
\nThese dead zones of the sea
\nWe had so many expectations
\nAnd the outcome is that we
\nAre party to this evil
\nThis pollution Of our soul
\nWe were sold the plastic paradise
\nAnd we let them take control<\/p>\n
Single use just throw away
\nExhausting energy
\nWe were party to the meltdown
\nIt was easy just to be
\nDisrespectful of ancestors
\nWho had delivered well
\nBy their care and their attention
\nTheir heaven is our hell<\/p>\n
No respect for anything
\nFor the glory that was life
\nAnything that walked the earth
\nSoon got a dose of strife
\nTearing through its life force
\nAnd these miracles we binned
\nKneeling at the waters edge
\nNow we know we have sinned<\/p>\n
We liquidated everything
\nAn annihilated more
\nEverything came in plastic
\nIt was something to adore
\nYou couldnt throw the stuff away
\nIt gave off life threatening gas
\nAnd it ended up in landfill
\nTons of it enmasse<\/p>\n
Like sputum and like excrement
\nIt ended in the sea
\nJettisoned by each of us
\nTo accumulate and be
\nVast areas of disbelief
\nMisjudgement and dissent
\nThe ignorance of thinking
\nSuch arrogance was meant
\nUnenlightened and bewildered
\nBy the error of our ways
\nWe stoop before the master
\nRealising our malaise<\/p>\n
We polluted our own bodies
\nOur water and our soil
\nWe drugged up all the animals
\nWith cruelty and toil
\nWe broke a lot of promises
\nAnd didnt really care
\nAnd what we see before us now
\nWe all were unaware<\/p>\n
And now so much pollution
\nEverywhere we go
\nAnd we still buy into the excess
\nOur credit balances grow
\nEverything is plastic
\nWe need a change of mind
\nWe all must clean up our own act
\nThat fact is underlined<\/p>\n
And get to work at doing it
\nOur own selves and to see
\nWe cut down on excesses
\nAnd really try to be
\nMindful of our environment
\nOur bodies and the soil
\nRe cycle and re use more
\nSet a course to toil
\nA little more, clean up our act
\nAnd do not just discard
\nThings that we feel we don’t want
\nFor many are working hard<\/p>\n
To clean up all our throw aways
\nThat poison and that kill
\nThe ocean’s clearly choking
\nWith so much acrid spill
\nWe must within our own selves
\nRealise the worth
\nOf Putting our houses in order
\nAnd repeating that on earth<\/p>\n
Far away shorelines are ever more polluted
\nBirds and sea life are dying in their droves
\nPlastic and throw aways must end
