A three year old Jaguar
\nEscaped we hear
\nOn Saturday morning
\nFrom a zoo its unclear
\nHow it got out
\nBut for about an hour
\nIt managed to attack
\nAnd kill with great power<\/p>\n
Audobon Zoo up town
\nNew Orleans
\nBefore the zoo opened
\nClearly full of beans
\nIt did find its freedom
\nAnd attacked other souls
\nAlpaca’s an emu wild foxes
\nTheir roles
\nCut short we believe
\nFor all have now died
\nIt could have been worse
\nWith people inside.<\/p>\n
A “big lovable goofball”:
\nThe zoo has described
\nThis rather wild Jaguar
\nTo me a strange gibe
\nClearly his wildness
\nUnderated maybe
\nHaving killed other animals
\nSo easily<\/p>\n
They are adaptable
\nThat we all know
\nArboreal animals
\nSeen in the flow
\nWhen forests are flooded
\nThey take to the trees
\nThey are dangerous animals
\nAnd do with ease<\/p>\n
Work intuitively
\nClearly inspired
\nIts cruel to cage wild souls
\nWho do remain fired
\nUp with their instinct
\nAnd their impulse to be
\nOut on their own
\nOr up a tall tree<\/p>\n
Zoo’s believe strongly in
\nCaptivity
\nIts illogicalness
\nFor the need to walk free
\nIts a contradiction
\nIn so many ways
\nAnd a pent up desire
\nThat Really plays<\/p>\n
Contrary to reason
\nFor me its unsound
\nIts really poor judgement
\nDown on the ground
\nA business in wild life
\nIt doesnt make sense
\nIt depends on closed minds
\nAnd is unbendingly tense<\/p>\n
For animals suffer
\nPredatorily
\nTheir instinct to hunt
\nIs empirically
\nPart of their make up
\nIt is what they are
\nAnd being fed lumps of flesh
\nIs in my mind too far<\/p>\n
They are killers
\nDeriving much from the chase
\nThey hunt and they stalk
\nWith their prowess and grace
\nAnd because we have given them
\nCaptivity
\nThey become in essence
\nOur commodity<\/p>\n
Its where the profit is
\nAnd so what we do
\nWe decide what they eat
\nAll their life through
\nWe are the commercial gods
\nSo to say
\nIts to do with the balance sheet
\nMore so each day<\/p>\n
Now subjugation
\nIs the rule of law
\nThey must depend on us
\nFor evermore
\nCoerced and constrained
\nBy the model we use
\nIts internment forever
\nYes we do abuse<\/p>\n
Every soul in these prisons
\nLocked up all day
\nTo walk in a jungle
\nWhich is just a display
\nA feature pehaps
\nBut a limited space
\nWhere they are then gawped at
\nBy the human race<\/p>\n
To escape for an hour
\nTo hunt and to maim
\nTo feel ones legs working
\nAnd ones heart aflame
\nWith predatoriness
\na given inside
\nThe taste of fresh blood
\nAnd with no need to hide<\/p>\n
