So many empty words I hear
\nAll platitudes and I
\nAm Anne and I find unfathomable
\nDo they just want me to die?
\nTo fade away completely
\nLongleat seems to me
\nThey misconstrue my every wish
\nJust to live in a sanctuary<\/p>\n
They kind of dismiss, my arthritis
\nFircing me to conceal
\nI have to remain furtive
\nAnd thats despite how real
\nThe pain is and the sand heaps
\nThey affect my back legs so
\nAny kind of stress and strain
\nAnd my joint pain it does grow<\/p>\n
I have to keep things secret
\nMy riddle is within
\nThe vets will come and give me hell
\nAnd the osteopath will win.
\nAlready I am exhausted
\nFrom the negativity
\nFrom not having a friend to chat with
\nIt affects me mentally<\/p>\n
I never liked to be here
\nIts a throwback to the past
\nBobby Roberts and the Chipperfields
\nMy die alas was cast
\nLong ago the daily mail collected
\nAll that cash
\nBut getting into longleat
\nI never saw as flash<\/p>\n
Lots of histrionics
\nAnd all that ballyhoo
\nThere was going to be a elephant place
\nWhich didnt turn out to
\nBe anything like they talked about
\nOf course now I must be
\nThe pushover the sitting duck
\nI feel like their patsy<\/p>\n
Elephant Haven thats the place
\nWhere I ought to go
\nOut in the wilds of France
\nAnd Not part of a show
\nA sanctuary with other friends
\nWhere I can just retire
\nMeditate and end my days
\nAnd retain my inner fire<\/p>\n
I am just part of a business
\nThe balance sheet and all
\nWhere everything is costed
\nAnd going to the wall
\nIs talked about and justified
\nWhy I should so remain
\nAlone all day and night
\nIt has become a pain<\/p>\n
Visitors must want to see me
\nAnd I just want to stay
\nIn my own space actually
\nNot gawped at every day
\nThe ravages of time
\nAnd the weakening in me
\nMy mental state is never great
\nAnd sometimes constantly<\/p>\n
Getting up sometimes I stress
\nMy sufferings my own
\nSometimes the activity
\nReally makes me groan
\nSometimes I am unwilling
\nTo be part of their show
\nI have struggled all my miserable life
\nAnd now I need to go<\/p>\n
I really need that sabbatical
\nWith friends of my own size
\nA breathing space respite in case
\nWhere people realise
\nOld elephants get weary
\nBurnt out maybe so
\nOn ones old legs whacked and knackered
\nAnd footsore dont you know<\/p>\n
Some peace and quiet
\nDecommision me
\nI am unarmed and non violent
\nThey should be conciliatory
\nI need a spot of wildness
\nNot so much adversity
\nI need to do my own thing
\nNot be coerced no more
\nI never want to see bullhooks
\nFor I know what they are for<\/p>\n
I lay down and I close my eyes
\nWhich is when the demons come
\nAll those circus beatings
\nMy legs they became numb
\nI toss and turn
\nConstantly yearn
\nFor the wildness where I could be
\nTreated with respect and love
