In deference to Longleat
\nCaptivity for me
\nFeels more like what is convenient
\nWith less freedom to be
\nMyself I am old and weary
\nMy life has not gone well
\nCircus was a sentence
\nMore akin to hell<\/p>\n
An overiding meanness
\nEven until today
\nIts their renunuciation of wildness
\nAnd I pay
\nSocially and respectfully
\nIts their lack of understanding
\nThey are pachydermatous
\nAnd I cannot say upstanding<\/p>\n
I am female and have feelings
\nIts distressing to be alone
\nWhatever excuses Longleat makes
\nThe soreness that is sown
\nIn my heart and body
\nAn exposed nerve dare I say
\nI am particularly perceptive
\nAbout what I lose each day<\/p>\n
The natural world means everything
\nTo me my eyes may dwell
\nOn trees and plants on grass and earth
\nThe wind the rain is well
\nPart of my existence
\nAnd friendship means so much
\nNot listening to the radio
\nBut just staying in touch<\/p>\n
With others I can relate to
\nNot be paralysed with fear
\nNot be left where I dont want to be
\nIts not my fault thats clear
\nThe atrocity of being
\nShamefaced and alone
\nIn a sterile enclosure
\nWhere I blunder about and moan<\/p>\n
I just feel so uneasy
\nDoing penance for my past
\nIts hard to recant and look ahead
\nFor I feel now that I am cast
\nIn an alien world where humanity
\nHas rubbed out my wild soul
\nHas nullified my wishes
\nAnd just taken control<\/p>\n
I hear the sobs of others
\nCaptivity for all
\nCondemned and feeling guilty
\nIt drives me up the wall
\nIt just feels like a punishment
\nThat I am carrying the can
\nDespite the dreams engendered
\nIts more to do with man<\/p>\n
There is no joy to speak of
\nBeing with a friend
\nTalking about the old times
\nNot having to defend
\nMyself against there is a great cloud
\nThats always over me
\nIts scheming and its underhand
\nAnd just derogatory<\/p>\n
And basically I shut off
\nSearch my inner soul
\nThey look at me they feed me
\nThey have the control
\nBy their manipulation
\nTheir shifty shuffling ways
\nI feel they sold me down the river
\nAnd how my aura pays<\/p>\n
For me my conscience remains clear
\nThats my saving grace
\nI suppose I believe in justice
\nBut its not here in this place
\nI feel I am more a nuisance
\nIts not high principled at all
\nIts as if I was never really loved
\nAnd I am here for the long haul<\/p>\n
I really need a bosom friend
\nThat is my one desire
\nAll these years stuck on my own
\nHas engaged an inner fire
\nFor man unkind to register
\nAnd abandon me to this
\nIs iniquitous deprivation
\nIts ungodly and I so miss<\/p>\n
That comfort and that moderation
\nBe it tempered be it strong
\nThe matriarchal influence
\nIn me it does belong
\nThe maleness of the keepers
\nTheir physical attitude
\nOblivious of my feelings
\nAnd often very crude<\/p>\n
Use of feminine logic
\nIntuitiveness abroad
\nHaving a sixth sense most of the time
\nHoned with real accord
\nHaving that gut reaction
\nThat hunch thats always there
\nBut feeling that specious argument
\nThat draws out more despair<\/p>\n
Their illogicality
\nTheir quibbling display
\nIts always contradictory
\nEvery single day
\nIncongruous and unwarranted
\nUntenable and unsound
\nI really want to go to France
