\nA pine cone on legs
\nWalks like the dinosaur
\nAlmost it begs
\nAs it wanders through wild bush
\nAt quite a few knots
\nThe scaly mammal
\nAnd we see lots<\/p>\n
Of them being slaughtered
\nApparently they
\nHave scales made of keratin
\nAnd so some say
\nThe chinese tradional medicine brigade
\nThat the scales can cure cancer
\nOn their shoulder laid<\/p>\n
Each one its own blueprint
\nA genuine soul
\nWith a great sweeping tongue
\nIt is in control
\nEating ants and as many
\nInsects as it can find
\nIncredibly mobile
\nWith a most unique mind<\/p>\n
One lady Maria
\nDIekmann has found
\nThat their fascination
\nDown on the ground
\nOne such sweet animal
\nShe calls honey bun
\nOne that she rescued
\nAnd clearly has spun<\/p>\n
Her way into maria’s heart
\nFor we can see
\nmaria walks with her for
\nHours and they be
\nTogether in eminence
\nOn a new high
\nIn the African bush
\nUnder a blue sky<\/p>\n

\nBe killed for their scales or their
\nDelicate meat
\nWhich in China and Vietnam
\nIs the big treat<\/p>\n
Critically endangered
\nOne can see why
\nChina and Thailand
\nAnd Vietnam all vie
\nFor the spoils
\nWhat a tragedy
\nOf human unkind
\nSick in so many ways

They have their integrity

\nBrimming with secrecy
\nAs we can see

Been on this earth
\nSome 40 million years
\nTraversing the bush
\nPathfinders in tears
\nEach little trail blazer
\nInsects and all
\nSince the beginning
\nIs one of a school<\/p>\n
Of curious animals
\nTheir eccentricity
\nWalking on two legs
\nTheir originality
\nSets them apart
\nAnd just from the sight
\nOne can fall madly in love
\nWith them Overnight<\/p>\n
In Africa 4 species
\nIn Asia too
\nHunted to death
\nA factor thats true
\nIn the briefest of periods
\nIts seems to me
\nThey are being wiped out
\nAnd Soon we shall not see<\/p>\n
In the hands of the gods
\nTragically so
\nA few people trying to save them
\nWe know
\nIn China an actress
\nAngela b
\nIs making their plight known
\nAnd many more see<\/p>\n
The effect of this madness
\nThe legacy here
\nThe performance of China
\nAnd the black marketeer
\nLike a rotten cancer
