\nFruits like plums and apricots as well

\nBut now the water shortages are hell<\/p>\n
Big business has now taken over
\nWide stretches of land
\nThey have diverted rivers
\nMost now understand
\nMono culture avocados growing everywhere
\nAre soaking up the water
\nLeading to despair<\/p>\n
Buying Chilean Avocado’s
\nIs damaging the land
\nThe River La Ligua is now bone dry
\nRubbish on the sand
\nThe life force has been stolen
\nBy the rich and all we see
\nIs desert and poor locals
\nWho cannot even be<\/p>\n
Living just a simple life
\nLaundry Every four weeks
\nThey irrigate with bath water
\nAnd are considered freaks
\nFor speaking out about these groves
\nOf Avocados where
\nAll the water goes to them
\nAnd ofcourse it isnt fair<\/p>\n
Most small farmers have lost everything
\nNo water thats the end
\nAnimals and fruits alike
\nNeed it, it does send
\nPeople into poverty
\nWhilst the rich export it all
\nPump water from a 100 metres down
\nThey have the call<\/p>\n
The eco systems finished
\nThe community is gone
\nPoliticians are corrupt
\nEveryone is conned
\nBy this lack of true resource
\nExporting it abroad
\nIn special air conditioned containers
\nThat again they cant afford
\nThen they must be ripened
\nIn warehouses so they
\nCan be bought by us here
\nReady to eat each day<\/p>\n
To be able to eat the green gold
\nAs and when we feel
\nThe chilean farmers are suffering
\nIts unfair trade for real
\nThey truthfully are suffering
\nAnd no one seems to care
\nInfact they are being hounded
\nAnd threatened everywhere<\/p>\n
So we can have our gourmet avocados
\nInstagram
\nAvocado burgers toasties sandwiches
\nWe cram
\nMany in our baskets
\nAnd eat them when we can
\nNot knowing chilean farmers
\nLives are going down the pan<\/p>\n
Its really terribly serious
\nAnd consumers ought to know
\nWe look out for fair trade
\nAnd some of us do show
\nRegard for the poorer farmers
\nTo ensure its not as hard
\nBut here now in Petorca
\nThe people do feel scarred<\/p>\n
They are living in a nightmare
\nTheir animals have died
\nTheir crops they all have perished
\nYet the exporters have denied
\nThere even is a problem
\nOf course they do not care
\nAs the poor get poorer
