We are rhe shadows of long before
\nOur feet pressed soft on the red dust floor
\nLong before the British came
\nAnd generated the huge blame game
\nIn the Pleistocene the canine roo’s
\nFlesh eating macropods the clues
\nUpon the caves of yester year
\nWhere ochre drawings still appear<\/p>\n
And On rock pictures wondrously were
\nIn North East Queensland Which caused a stir
\nGroups were rampant and many more
\nRaged along the rocky shore<\/p>\n
For centuries we ran beside
\nThe aboriginies to guide
\nSo many of them on their way
\nWith us across the vast array
\nOf forests then where lions did tread
\nSabre toothed mouth opened – dread
\nWhere we came from and where we are
\nIn the shadows of the great owl star<\/p>\n
Years of flurry hurry skurry
\nStirring kicking kind of picking
\nBright eyes bushy tailed were we
\nIn the outback running free
\nDreamtime and the stories told
\nEach montage redacted with gold
\nWe learned to leap we learned to fly
\nAnd crawl and climb the trees to high
\nIn the canopy we achieved
\nAs much as any would have believed<\/p>\n
We kangaroos felt gentleness
\nPredation had worked more or less
\nThe aboriginies were our friends
\nWe ran together and that sends
\nMessages to the gods of old
\nTo the natural mother I am told
\nAnd our teeth grew smaller with each passing year
\nIt was clear to us that people fear
\nThe british back in 88<\/p>\n
So much and we could help them so
\nWe dropped our fangs and let them know
\nAny interest was on them for we
\nWould hunt and claim
\nEnough for tea.
\nNo more flesh and no more meat
\nThe grassy hillocks at our feet
\nThe firery flowers the vegges green
\nAnd all the difficulties
\nThat there had been
\nTheir graciousness was everywhere
\nAnd Ancestral Land
