We apparently have the gift
\nOf imbalancing Nature
\nWe do it with our arrogance
\nEvery day
\nWe have been around a few hundred years
\nBut compared to Nature we
\nHavent scratched the surface yet
\nAnd we frantically<\/p>\n
Want to use controlling methods
\nBelieving we have the right
\nThe disparity and divergence
\nnot always in plain sight
\nWe could not see the uniqeness
\nAnd with our methods we found we
\nAttempted to make things better
\nBut failed it seems to me<\/p>\n
Its discriminate in many ways
\nAs we try to right our wrong
\nWe think that we can modify
\nSomething that doesn’t belong
\nWe use science thats our passport
\nOut of where we are
\nWe throw our spanner in the works
\nNot seeing very far<\/p>\n
We walk upright and believe we are
\nThe top knotch souls about
\nThat is down to our arrogance
\nWe adapt but shelve the doubt
\nWe adjust without the knowledge
\nWe destroy but dont create
\nWe basically are incompetent
\nAnd blindly then await<\/p>\n
The consequences good or bad
\nAnd if there is no antidote
\nWe conjure up excuses
\nTo compensate what some have wrote
\nTake Australia its mono cropping sugar industry
\nAttracting the cane and french beetles
\nWho detrimentally
\nAttacked the roots and harmed the crops
\nThus in panic mode we sought
\nTo attempt to hit native species
\nAnd ofcourse we did import<\/p>\n
The cane toad from the America’s
\nIt seened a good idea
\nAnd introduced it in 1935
\nIt just seemed clear
\nThe toads would eat the beetles
\nAnd the sugar industry
\nWould flourish we were clever
\nAnd thats how it would be<\/p>\n
We were thinking about money
\nAbout the bottom line
\nThe accountants gave the specifics
\nAnd we took that as a sign
\nThe toads would be the answer
\nBut if they had have been
\nThey would have been here already
\nIn the ethic of the green<\/p>\n
But what infact has happened
\nIs the toads have done their thing
\nBut brought a lot of other problems
\nTo our shores their fling
\nWith all the busy beetles
\nBut little predation here
\nAnd so numbers have exploded
\nAnd now its very clear<\/p>\n
The toads are a new problem
\nThey are toxic to so many
\nOf our truly native species
\nAnd ofcourse now any
\nThat attempt to eat the cane toad
\nDie out like the Quoll
\nGoanna’s and snakes are perishing
\nOur decision it lacked soul<\/p>\n
But the cards were stacked against us
\nGrey matter on one level
\nDoesn’t account for history
\nIt can and is the devil
\nWhat seemed apparent at the time
\nHas brought its share of woe
\nAnd now the toads are multIplying fast
\nAnd they grow and grow<\/p>\n
Migrating 60 kilometres each year
\nWhich isnt good
\nSome species like the Black Kite
\nEat only the belly
\nIt would
\nDo away with some of them
\nBut their toxicity
\nWas it designed for Australia
\nAnd so it seems to me<\/p>\n
Science is like children
\nBecause they go to school
\nAnd maybe use an ipad
\nThey have the whereforall
\nTo make whatever decisions
\nTo go against the mould
\nTo display their brand of arrogance
\nBecause on it they are sold<\/p>\n
Thus we now lose predation
\nThe goanna and some snakes
\nDung beetles and much more besides
\nWe are playing with high stakes
\nWe cull genetically alter
\nWe create the most toxic spray
\nWe are very good at killing
\nBut creating then we say<\/p>\n
We cannot make a blade of grass
\nOr spiniflex not us
\nWe can bloody well destroy it
\nYea without a fuss
\nBut all the while imbalancing
\nThe environment around
\nBecause we are really ignorant
\nAnd arrogant I have found<\/p>\n
We make ourselves feel clever
\nAt university
\nWe have so many proffesors
\nAnd specialists all be
\nClamouring to destroy the world
\nWith their rockets and missiles
\nBut when it comes to Nature
\nThen that is off their dials<\/p>\n
We should think of historicity
\nOf the aboriginie
\nWho would never go for mono culture
\nLetting permaculture be
\nThe mainstay of his knowledge
\nRealising we
\nHave been here just 200 years
